Rising dose of warfarin, but INR stays the same - hard to get it above 2.2

I take 14mg per day and stay dead steady at 2.0. I’ve been on the same dose since a few weeks after my surgery 3 years ago.

I don’t know what to do anymore

Sorry to hear about your situation. I know it can be hard if you are feeling singled out or isolated because of this new valve in your body. You're 17 so I imagine you're still in high school which can be a cruel time, especially when you have something that makes you stand out which no one else...

    On-X in FDA trials

I was asked to participate in this study. I decided against it because I’d rather get back to as normal of a life as possible right now post-op and not worry about whether I would end up with a bad reaction to a drug in testing. I would hard pressed to believe that the chairman of cardiology...

    Staying the Course -- 12/09/2019

Congrats on getting the seemingly good news on your echo! That must be a big relief as you continue along recovery. We got hit by that cold spell today in the Chicagoland area. Fell to around 15 degrees here so I’m stuck inside to get my walking done. I’m 4 weeks post op and doing 2 30 minute...

Getting Ready For 2nd AVR - 29 Years Old

    Resting heart rate

My resting heart rate is generally in the 50's, and when I'm sleeping it falls to the low 40's. On a recent halter monitor I was assigned to wear, they recorded my heart rate as low as 42. When I spoke to the Dr. about it, they said if it's normal for you there's nothing to be concerned about.

    Completed Half Marathon

Congratulations! That’s a big accomplishment and no small feat, regardless of heart condition.

    Mitral valve RE-repair questions

Hey Iggy, Sorry to hear about your situation. Facing another surgery so soon must be very difficult. I had an aortic valve repair, so I can’t speak to how much my situation applies to yours but hopefully it can help a bit. I had my leaky aortic valve repaired in 2014 with the hope that it...

Life after Mechanical Valve --- 31 years old

You and I seem to be in very similar situations. I had a repair about 5 years ago which didn’t hold up, and I’m due for a mechanical replacement next month. I was very active - big runner before I had to stop due to my repair failing. My cardiologist at Northwestern said he has multiple...

Getting Ready For 2nd AVR - 29 Years Old

I’m happy to hear your sons procedure was a success! Unfortunately, the tavr option really came off the table when the size of my aneurysm became known. They’re cracking my chest regardless of valve choice to replace my aorta, so given my circumstances I’m okay with the mechanical valve my...

Just had my TAVR two days ago.

Happy to hear about your successful procedure! It must feel like a tremendous burden lifted off your chest. I hope you’re able to get discharged soon and get back home.

Getting Ready For 2nd AVR - 29 Years Old

Best of luck to you as well! Outcomes for Bentall are extremely encouraging. From what I've read, no statistical difference in mortality or morbidity vs. only a valve replacement - which is to say it should go very well! Thank you, Ladybug! Best of luck with your procedure. I agree, it's a good...

Getting Ready For 2nd AVR - 29 Years Old

Met with my surgeon at Northwestern and officially got my surgery date: November 8th. After looking at my MRI it appears I have an aneurysm at my aortic root, and mild dilation of my ascending aorta. The surgeon is going to do a Bentall procedure (valve, root, and ascending aorta...
