On-x Valve Failure after 10 years?

My surgeon recommend the 1.5-2.0 and 81mg aspirin and I said "fine" then went to my cardio and told them I want 2-3 and they agreed. The stats show minimal risk in 2.5-3.0 range so that is what I shoot for. If I get to 3.0-3.4 I don't panic, maybe have a little more vitamin K, if I am low 2.0...

On-x Valve Failure after 10 years?

Sorry about your issue, but have they confirms it is,the valve? I get short of breath more now as I ate and they found small nodules on my lungs. I do cardio workouts at least 4x a week. Some of it is I am getting older. I keep my INR range between 2-3 shooting for 2.5-3.0. I take a baby...

Aortic aneurism with bicuspid valve - options in 51 year old

I can't speak to valve sparing, but my opinion is one and done, and I don't want to go through it again. I went mechanical just for that reason. Every time someone goes inside (even TAVR) there is risk, If I can avoid them ever going in again and have to deal with warfarin and blood tests, I was...

Is it possible to travel internationally for six months of the year while on Warfarin?

My cardio would not let me do it even though I brought my spreadsheet with ranges and does, my GP/PCP was fine with it. I save the $120 a month for the service. It was harder to buy the Coag-sense as they want a prescription,, but I got it without one. My DP/PCP would likely write a scrip now if...

    Headed for Cleveland Clinic

There is no better place in the US for your car they have been #1 rated for something like 24 straight years. Mayo in MN is #2 usually. IF you search you will find my posts form my experience 3 years ago. Follow their recommendation for walking and moving around and you will be fine. I had a...

Is it possible to travel internationally for six months of the year while on Warfarin?

I would buy your own testing machine and supplies and bring enough warfarin with you. If you INR varies a lot, bring enough pill sizes to adjust accordingly. I manage my own INR and have a good relationship with my DR who calls in whatever scrips I need to adjust.

    Eliquis instead of Coumadin

I was asked to do the Eliquis trial and felt it might be a little premature for me. I prefer the better stability of a once a day drug that even if I miss a day the half-life and level in my body does not leave me without protection too quickly. I hate Lovenox as it is a shot twice a day, and...

    Dental work post-surgery

Went back to Perio yesterday afternoon as I was still bleeding. They put some ointment that helps stop the bleeding nd told me not to brush or use that side for 24 hours. This morning all is good. Next time I need to learn to wait to take my bridge shot. Basically whatever procedure I am having...

    Dental work post-surgery

I assume it was 1.4ish as I checked night before and it was 1.6. In 2 days it dropped from 2.5 to 1.6, so I assume it dropped a bit more 18 hours later when I had the procedure. When I had my GI bleed several docs said for aortic valve I should be fine going about 2-3 days without anything. And...

    Dental work post-surgery

I had a deep cleaning yesterday. Cardio said no need to bridge unless they expect a lot of blood. I knew I had 1 tooth that would be an issue so I dropped INR down to about 1.4. Everything went well, I made the mistake of resuming bridging that night and woke up with clots of blood in my mouth...

Post Surgery long-term followup with cardiologist

I had a daily xray in hospital, maybe a CT as well, all a blur to me know. It was annoying with 4 IVs and such being wheeled to xray then having to position in all the angles for x-rays with everything dangling from me. I have copies of everything, xrays, MRIs, CTs going back years.

    Dental work post-surgery

Good thread. I am having a deep cleaning in 2 weeks and debating whether to lower INR, or bridge to avoid bleeding as it is not uncommon for me to bleed with aggressive flossing so I suspect they will draw blood during the deep cleaning. I already have to pre-med. Since I am On-X I was debating...

    Decision made....nearly

Heck, I was 58 and I still went mechanical. Did not want to deal with another even minimal procedure in the future if I could avoid it.

400 person study on lower INR (1.5-2.5) with mechanical valve

I also have the On-x and my surgeon said 1.5-20 ad I and my cardio said 2-3 which is what I shoot for and it works out as I have had some swings from low 2's to low 3' so thinking that 1.5-2.0 could drop to 1 would scare me too much.

400 person study on lower INR (1.5-2.5) with mechanical valve

I thought the existing stats are pretty compelling the 2-3 is the best range and then 2.5-3 being the sweet spot. Not sure what they see in 400 people will sway me form my 2-3 range with my target being 2.5-3.
