    Does Diabetes affect INR?

Thanks for the excellent information Pellicle. I go to the doc this afternoon and I’m certain he will put me on diabetes meds of some form. Maybe my INR will stabilize in a few weeks. I certainly appreciate your offer of help and I might take you up on it in the near future. All the best...

    Does Diabetes affect INR?

Hello Everyone, I apologize in advance as this is a long post, but please bear with me. I have been on warfarin since my MVR in 2017 and self-testing & regulating doses with my doctor since 2018. I bridged with Lovenox for 2 spinal and a shoulder surgery, but was back in range (2.5 - 3.5)...

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

I also have had issues with Biotel and BCBS insurance. After noting that others bought testing strips on eBay, I received my first order last week. Then on Saturday I received an email that strips would no longer be available to purchase on eBay, but available on their website: selfcaredepot.com.

    Remote INR taking over Coaguchek

When I was trained for home testing, the trainer specifically said that he recommended soap and water only, due to alcohol could contaminate the blood specimen.

Availability of CoaguChek XS strips on eBay

Just last week I made my first eBay purchase of test strips, after reading of other’s experiences, and being disappointed in Biotel/Cardionet’s billing practice. I received my eBay order within 4 days, but received an email on Saturday that they would no longer be able to sell on eBay, but...

First Surgery Coming Up, And Afraid

Proud owner of a mechanical mitral valve here and taking warfarin for 6 years. I’ve never been considered graceful and have had several hard falls, one required surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff. I have tripped over pets, toys, doorsteps and my own feet, so I am constantly bruised. My...

    New, confused, scared, anxious, help

Obviously being in the US I have no experience with the Canadian health care system, but I will share what I learned from the Cleveland Clinic. My insurance company, Anthem BCBS, had sent me 3-4 letters over the course of the past year offering a clinical review from the Cleveland Clinic...

What is a good watch/ wearable to measure heart rate and heart rate variability?

I had a Fitbit previously and loved it, until the iWatch series 4 came along and had the EKG function, so I switched. I love everything about my iWatch except the battery life, as it requires frequent charges.

    Warfarin & arthritis: pain relievers?

You might could try Tramadol, it’s a relatively mild non-narcotic pain reliever. Since my MVR in 2017 I have had a cervical fusion with plates & screws, a lumbar fusion with rods, and a rotator cuff repair. I am unable to tolerate hydrocodone or oxycodone due to severe nausea & vomiting. I had...

    COVID in house

March 2020 I began working from home when COVID first began. My husband still went into the office and we were both diagnosed with COVID in February 2021. He is extremely healthy and takes no maintenance meds at all, but was extremely sick for over 2 weeks. I, on the other hand, have several...

Post surgery: Cardiologist no longer part of routine?

Your story is frustrating and scary, in my opinion. I had mechanical MVR in May 2017 at age 48, less than 6 months after finding out I had Mitral Regurgitation. After 2 follow up appointments with the surgeon I have seen my cardiologist every 6 months. My favorite cardiologist retired after 3...

    Importance of "heart valve card"

I carry my valve card in my wallet with my drivers license, health insurance card and a list of my medications. My family, friends, and close coworkers know in case of emergency and if I am alone hopefully paramedics would look there first.

anybody else react badly to anesthesia?

Chris I never deal well with anesthesia or opiate pain medication after 2 back surgeries and OHS since 2013. I was horrendously nauseas and all they could do was give me shots of phenergan while in the hospital and send me home with phenergan or zofran. It might not completely eliminate it...

    DO MACHANICAL VALVES FAIL

I used to worry about the same thing for the first 6 months. I was a nervous wreck about it. I finally came to gripes with the fact that my surgeon had made the best choice for me. I went into surgery expecting a repaired valve and came out with a mechanical one. I have decided to not...
