    TAVR Surgery

Looking back on it, now that it has been a couple months, the pain was really pretty minor, especially when compared to OHS. I was given plenty of pain meds and have a bunch left over.

    TAVR Surgery

I had TAVR back in May with Medtronics CoreValve. Here is a post on my experience. http://www.valvereplacement.org/forums/showthread.php?42926-TAVI-report&highlight=tavi

    TAVI report

A couple of the issues mentioned were related to the calcification of the aorta. During OHS, it would be clamped, which could result in damage, which could be difficult to repair. It also made the sewing of the sew ring of the new valve more difficult. I'm 10 days out from the TAVI and feel...

    TAVR Recovery Period

I just posted a report on my TAVI http://www.valvereplacement.org/forums/showthread.php?42926-TAVI-report

    TAVI report

Last week, I had AVR via TAVR/TAVI. While it was nothing compared to OHS, it was not a pain-free experience (although I have a low pain tolerance threshold). For others that may have TAVR, here are notes about my experience. I am about 25 years younger than the typical TAVR patient...

    On-X survey

I did the pre-op survey and got the $100 gift card in the mail a week or two later. At the time I did the survey, we were leaning toward TAVI vs OHS. I asked On-X if I still qualified to take the survey and she said I did. I am going for TAVI next week and plan to do the post-op questionnaire.

    TAVI scheduled

I am finally scheduled for TAVI next week. I will post a follow up once everything is over. It has been an “adventure” getting to this point. It started in January with a referral from my cardiologist to a surgeon at the same hospital group for AVR. The effects of radiation therapy 40 years...

need my valve replaced and want to know chances of..

WebMD has a site where you see the stats on local hospitals for various procedures ("The Hospital Advisor tool from WebMD Health Manager"). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like a public site. I get to it via my insurance (BlueCrossBlueShield), but if I try to directly open the link, it wants a...

    cardiac catherizatin

I have had three through the groin and one through the arm. The arm is much easier. I too went home the same day. With the groin, you may stay overnight, since they want to make sure it closes. That is one area you don't want to "blow open".

How does a tissue valve fail / wear out?

Thanks for the info. I will post an update after surgery (tentative mid-May).

How does a tissue valve fail / wear out?

Even though I am only 55, due to complications from radiation therapy and other factors, my surgeon is recommending a TAVI/TAVR instead of OHS and a valve replacement. Since this will include a tissue valve, and I hope to live beyond the typical valve lifetime, I was curious how a tissue valve...

    TAVI post hospital recovery time

Due to complications from radiation for Hodgkin's, my surgeon is leaning toward TAVI for me vs full AVR. He did not have a feel for post-hospital recovery time before I could return to work, as most of his TAVI patients are older and already retired. I would appreciate input from anyone that...

    On-X survey

Has anyone done the On-X survey, from the ad on the forum? $200 sounds great, but I am concerned on how intrusive the questions are and if it requires input from the surgeon. I was considering doing the survey after I have a date set for the AVR surgery.

    Statistics on AVR operations

Is there a good source for statistics and information on AVR surgery? The numbers I have seen are 60-80,000 operations per year, with ~1% fatality rate. I have significant stenosis as a result of radiation for Hodgkin’s, which I have been told makes thing much more complicated. (This is one...

What activities / toys are good for the recovery period ?

I will be setting a date for my AVR next week and was thinking ahead to the at home recovery period. What are good activities and "toys" to fill the time? I'm sure I'll catch a few things on Netflix, but don't want to spend the entire time just watching TV. I do plan to get a few good books...

    Another new member

I am so glad to have found this forum. It has been enlightening to read about others with a similar history (Hodgkins with radiation therapy in mid-70s). I had my first heart issue in the mid-80s with a brief bout of pericarditis. I had a stent in ’96, then nothing until a few years ago...
