Still struggling cardio wise running, etc. 2.8 years after Aortic Valve replacement

I was never in the running shape that you were, but prior to surgery I believed that any healthy person could string together 3 -10 min miles. Now, 7 years after two mechanical valves put in at age 42, I still haven’t done it. I have put a restrictions on my effort though... once my heart rate...

Has anyone else experienced nocturnal leg cramping after prolonged use of warfarin?

I am 7 years out of surgery (mechanical aortic and mitral valves). In the last year I've experienced several instances of severe leg cramping. These muscle spasms are super intense. I've come to call them a "super Charlie horse". Ive always associated them with bouts where I might of...

Average age of death in "In Loving Memory" section

I agree with pellicle as well... I have, however, been reading about "blue zones" and centurions. One of the indicators that someone is going to live to 100 is that they are healthy at 80. I'm healthy but had a major life event where i have two artificial valves in my heart and no spleen at...

Opinion poll: is valentines day stunt risky for those with mechanical valves?

Hello all, Valentines day approaches and I'm in love:) My small town has this fun contest where they break a hole in the ice in a frozen lake and men declare their love and then splash into the icy water while the person of our affections warmly giggle at our silly antics... and generally love...

    far infrared saunas

Ive always loved the heat from a good sauna... now there are these "far infrared saunas" that would work well in my home because i do not have the room to build a traditional sauna. I have two mechanical valves and am 3 years after OHS. Warfarin daily. Does anyone have any experience with...

Im currently at the urgent care, again, for a bit tongue. Should I home test more than once a week?

I recently went to home testing for INR and I like to convenience. I use the CoaguChek XS system. My insurance pays for testing once a week, but I'm kind of a numbers guy. I'd like to test more often... maybe twice or three times a week... or basically when ever i feel like it. Perhaps I...

Does the sound of the "click" made by mechanical valves have any correlation to inr

Thanks everyone for your replies. Thanks Tom. I can see that Coagulation has nothing to do with thickness rather the ability to coagulate. However, I see nothing to convince me that inr levels dont correlate to sound. I take a warfarin because of mechanical heart valve... without it I have a...
