    Now I have a-fib

Thanks ej. How long did your a-fib episodes last before they self-corrected, if you don't mind sharing? Mine was about 2 hours (253 bpm atrial and 105 ventricular) before I got to the ER, and then probably another hour or two before they did the cardioversion. Now I have a nice rectangular...

    Now I have a-fib

So, a surprise detour this morning to the ER with irregular heartbeat around 185-200 bpm, where they found "atrial fibrillation with RVR (HC)," did a cardioversion which stopped the a-fib, and put me on Eliquis for a month. Following up with my regular cardiologist / valve guy on Friday. Not...

    Surgery this Wednesday

The repair pretty much gave you moderate stenosis then. Was that a known risk? I had the opposite- had severe mitral stenosis, ended up with moderate stenosis and moderate regurgitation. But having worsened regurgitation was basically guaranteed with the procedure I had (valvuloplasty).

    Questions about treatment options

At age 28 ? I’d say get a mechanical and come up with another cool and awesome dream. There are several warfarin warriors on here that do amazing things. Repeat surgery is no joke.

18th valversary for my bovine valve

Well, I wouldn’t say they can “always” do valve in valve. But certainly at age 70 bio makes sense.

3 Weeks to go......... to Big Surgery

Wishing you a successful intervention and smooth recovery for all your different issues. Yeah unexpected to hear about the CABG but definitely prefer to learn about it this way rather than the heart attack way. Wishing you the best.

First Surgery Coming Up, And Afraid

Oops, just saw that you do have surgery scheduled in two weeks so yeah it’s timely. Hope you get some practical ideas. Maybe you want to share your recovery plans with the group and see if anyone has anything to add.

First Surgery Coming Up, And Afraid

I think you will find that you can be resourceful and manage, when you get to the point of surgery and recovery, newarrior. For example you have already had the taxi idea. For the doors, maybe you would need to wait for someone else to come along. Maybe you could stock up on groceries or get...

    mechanical-heart-valve-noise-may-cause-sleepless-nights

Thanks for the pink noise idea, I had never heard of it. Praying right now that my son’s tinnitus is temporary. He said the pink noise helps somewhat.

    Interesting phone deal

I have prepaid T-Mobile and pay $25 for unlimited talk / text and 6 G data, even though I use data for navigation and geocaching I have never run out. My young adult kids are on $15 individual plans, same service. I think that’s 3 gigs data plus unlimited talk and text. They never have an issue...

    Apologies

Autism awareness was really low when you were young. My son has autism as well and has a lot of medical anxiety. He wears out my sister (a doctor) with his questions because he never seems to be reassured. I see some of the same dynamic in your posts here. My son is also working on this in a...

    Calcified Mitral valve surgery options

Yes, I had mitral stenosis (most likely from rheumatic fever) and had a valvuloplasty, they used a balloon threaded through a blood vessel, pierced the septum of the heart, and inflated the balloon in the valve. It’s contraindicated in several situations and is expected to worsen regurgitation...

2 very important appointments coming up

Excellent, glad you are getting an MD cardiologist, 100% appropriate . . . . they should be able to look at your tests and see if you really even need a surgical consult right now. You are BAV with moderate regurg and 4.1cm aneurysm, right? Obviously, you are going to ask the cardiologist...

    Possible Mitral Valve Surgery Needed?

Sorry to hear about the mitral problems. I have both mitral stenosis and regurgitation due to rheumatic issues and had a repair in 2002 that has worked fine so far. In my case at least, they do not want to see any enlargement of the left ventricle - symptomatic or not, that's when they want to...

New member; Alarmed at decreasing EF %

Just to add to what other mitral folks said above - my understanding is that for mitral valve patients, the EF can appear artificially elevated, so 60% is in fact not normal and can be a cause for concern and follow-up tests. The ranges used for those with aortic valve issues or indeed other...

    Blood pressure home testing

My BP is naturally low anyways, but I can definitely lower it just by thinking soothing thoughts.

New member; Alarmed at decreasing EF %

Well, I wouldn’t panic - see what your doc says, but understand that your EF is a calculated number, and echos do show some variation. If they are concerned about you they will likely either put you on more frequent monitoring or do a TEE to check the result. I’ve had TEEs twice and both times...

    ADHD medication for heart patients

Maybe ease off on all the angry faces? Anger Can Affect Your Heart Health February 04, 2022 Anger is a normal human emotion and can serve a useful purpose, but if you frequently “blow your top,” it may affect your heart health. “Anger causes a flood of adrenaline, preparing your body for...
