Has anyone heard from Rachel (RZG)?

Yes, I've returned to the fold! It's been several years since I've been active on the list, mostly due to being busy with a ton of other things. Most recently, moving to Columbus OH and starting a new job at the James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State University. I moved into my house here in...

    Back after a long absence

Hi VR.com'ers--- After chatting with Ross this morning, I realized I haven't been on VR.com in nearly a year. It's been a crazy year, with a job change (same place, different position that is about 1000x crazier than the previous job--not sure I'm enjoying that). Healthwise, all is well; found...

    INR=1.6! Yikes!

Hello all! I know I've been laying low lately, reading some and hardly posting. Went to my PCP today, and when I had labs done, asked to get an INR checked too since it has been 6 weeks since my last check. Whew! Glad I did, since it came back a 1.6. I went longer between checks than I...

    Podiatry and the ER

I have an ingrown toenail on my right foot that is KILLING me. I've soaked it twice today, and most recently cleaned it with bactine. It's infected.... I'm wondering, does anyone know if hospitals have podiatrists that can come to the ER? I think one of ours here does, and am planning to...

    Al would've been proud

Tuesday I worked in our outpatient clinic (folks who come in for outpatient chemo, labs, etc vs the inpatient unit where I normally work.). I had a patient who was taking coumadin (5 mg a day) since she had a history of DVT. Her INR was 3.6--when I called the doctor's nurse to tell them, they...

    Sorbitol is Evil!

Bought some sugar free lemon wafer cookies at Kroger's last night, thinking how good it was for me to have something sweet that was sugar free. last night I ate a few; and had a few with lunch today. This after noon when I went downtown for my INR check (which was 3.1, thanks!), I started...

    INR and Mole Removal

I am going to the dermatologist on Friday to have a mole removed, not the freeze it off type but actually shaved off and biopsied. It is probably 1/2 cm across. When I talked to the nurse she didn't seem to think I needed to worry about my INR, although I am trying to get it back down into...

    Testing Frequency Using a Clinic

How often do folks get tested who are stable and getting it done at an INR clinic? Just curious--I was tested a week ago and was at 2.9. However, I was 4 days into a 5 day Z-pack antibiotic--so set myself up to come back in a week. Low and behold today, I was 5.7!! To quote the nurse "Holy...

    coumadin and Azithromycin?

Got put on a z-pack yesterday for an upper respiratory infection. It's azithromycin that you take for 5 days. Should I be worried about my INR during that time? On a more entertaining note, I had a patient Friday whose INR had jumped up to 7.6; he was taking 5 mg daily for post DVT in his...

    One Year Check Up!

Went to CCF for my one year check up yesterday. Was told I looked "Fantastic" and that I could come back in a year. (I'll still see my cardio here). Had an echo which looked very good--it was neat to see the valve and the mechanical leaflets moving! I can't believe it's been a whole year! Yay!

    Clicking and ticking!

I got a massage today at our local school of massage. Student massages are $30 for an hour, a pretty good deal! The therapist was maybe 20, had been told about my mechanical valve but I guess it hadn't really sunk in....When she was behind my head (I was on my back) massaging my neck, the...

    INR Update--Dropped to 2.0

Today I got tested and I was 2.0. (last time I was 5.4--they took me from a 7.5*5 days, 5*2 days per week to 5*7 days). So now they want me to go back to the original schedule, and I'll get tested next week. So, doing the math, I did a reductions from 47.5mg/week to 35mg/week--pretty big...

    Inr 5.4---yikes!

I went today for my 1 month INR check--and guess what, it was 5.4!! I haven't been doing anything different, at least not that I can figure out. I just got back from a week in Colorado, but that wouldn't have made any difference that I can see. I was anxious to get it checked today, since I...

    Chicago weekend--Had a blast!

I've been home a couple of hours after our "girls" weekend in chicago. I had a marvelous time meeting Gina, Janie and Sherry (and Janie's friend from FL). Although it was bone-chilling cold (the temperature Sat didn't go above 0F until noontime!!!!) we had fun going to the Shedd Aquarium (where...

    Chicago Gathering--Who's coming????

Can't believe it's only a week until Chicago. So who is coming? Gina is there a final-final agenda? I'm looking forward to getting away for a weekend. Can't wait to meet you all! Carolyn

    INR Update

I'm up to 2.3 today. That makes me alot more secure than the 1.5 on Friday. So my Dr was right, I was trending up. I'll go back next week and get re-checked, since I'm less concerned about overshooting my range now that I'm at least within striking distance!! Whew! Thanks to all for your...

    Sinus misery

After seeing the post about sinus problems--thought I'd start a thread where we can commiserate with each other about our sinus issues. I've been fighting some crud for the last two weeks. I'll get a little better, then feel crappy again. Finally got antibiotics after showing up for my...

    Paranoia and Colonoscopy

I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy on Wednesday, so I "should" be stopping my coumadin tomorrow. I'm getting really paranoid about not bridging--my cardio here told me to just stop taking it 3 days before and go back on after the procedure. I talked to my PCP last Tuesday about just staying on...

    Bactrim and Coumadin

Had some toenail surgery done and the podiatrist wants me to take Bactrim for 10 days. Reading the literature that came with the RX, it says that taking bactrim may reduce the effectiveness of my blood thinning medication ( and it specifically mentions coumadiin). Should I be worried about my...

    Thera Tears and INR

I had lasik eye surgery a couple of years ago and my eye doctor recommended I take these to help with dry eye. Can they interfere with mh INR? Per the website: Each 4 softgels contain 187 IU of Vitamin E, 1000 mg of Flaxseed Oil, 450 mg of EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid from Fish Oil) and 300 mg of...
