Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

Received an Edwards Bovine and Medtronic pacemaker 8 years ago at age 63. Still ticking.

    Temperature swings less now

I forgot to mention that the "chills" in the evening were uncomfortable enough that I had to cover myself with a blanket. I was also getting the night sweats almost as though I had had a high fever that had "broken". It sounds like these are not altogether uncommon symptoms, but if so, why was...

    Temperature swings less now

I am almost 5 weeks post op now and, as I mentioned before, had been plagued with my temperature rising and chills in the early evening. The first couple of evenings after being discharged the temp rose to about 101 then about 101.5 and on the 3rd day it rose to about 102. That's when they...

    4-week update

Happy to hear you are doing so well...seems like some of the remaining minor symptoms are slowly but surely taking care of themselves. Wow, 4 weeks already - how time flies when we're having fun. Regards, Charlie

I tried an experiment yesterday and did not walk/exercise at all (I had been walking just under 2 miles/day). The result was that my temp only went up just under a degree last night and a couple hours later dropped back to normal. Today I plan to do my walk again and monitor the temperature late...

Thanks for sharing some of your experiences which sound similar to mine. They discharged me again yesterday after 5 days of testing; X-Ray, Echocardiogram, numerous blood cultures, urine cultures, etc and constantly running Zosyn, and Vancomycin. Everything came back negative. By Friday I...

I was admitted back I to the hospital yesterday because I kept having a 101 to 102 degree temperature on and off. They have been running the typical battery of tests to try to determine the source. I myself still think it's just my body adjusting to everything. To top it off, I was A-Fib...

    Still in step-down unit

Hi Greg, The unit is a Medtronics bibolar pacer (RVDR01). Since they found a 6mm "nodule" on my lung prior to OHS they want to do 6 month MRI followups, so they implanted this MRI compatable version.

Almost a 4 mile brisk walk today

Hi Vadim, Hope you have an enjoyable walk today with your family. I'm planning on doing the same today (although much less distance). There's a great place to walk here in Narragansett, RI along the seawall; fresh, salt air...makes you grateful to be alive.

    Still in step-down unit

I did get discharged on Thursday and yesterday (Friday) the visiting nurse stopped in and did her introductory paperwork, vitals and took out the staples. I went for two leisurely walks outside yesterday for a grand total of just over a mile. I was a little winded but not too bad, but my...

    Still in step-down unit

Pacemaker was installed yesterday afternoon. I spiked a 103.6 temp at 2:00 AM and they came in and took samples for testing. This morning temp is only a degree high and all the tests have come back normal. Hopefully I will still be discharged today in spite of that episode. They tell me I will...

    Still in step-down unit

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement everyone. I'm sitting here waiting for them to take me down to install the pacemaker in an hour or so. Assuming all goes as planned, I should finally be out of here sometime tomorrow. Other than the heart block issue, I have progressed satisfactorily...

    Still in step-down unit

Hi Everyone, Well I'm now 7 days post op and still in the step-down unit. It feels a little like I didn't get to graduate with my class. All went as planned with the surgery (Bovine valve replacement for my BAV and repair of the 5.6 cm aneuryism) but there was concern in the ICU due to a slow...

Surgery date has been set to 03/27/2012

Hi Vadim, We have the same surgery date. I'm scheduled for a bovine aortic valve and repair of the ascending aneurysm (5.6cm). I just wanted to wish you a smooth surgery and speedy recovery.

    Is surgery really necessary?

Thanks everyone. The experiences you relate help me to be sure that surgery is necessary at this point.
