    5 months after surgery

Well, I'm 5 months after surgery. I went back to work 8 weeks after surgery, tho I wasnt doing any of the heavy lifting that I normally do. As of now, I dont notice any shortness of breath any more. I am lifting nearly as much as I did pre surgery, about 60 lbs repeatedly over my head. By...

Have "tissue matching" tomorrow, whats that about?? I am having a bovine valve replacement of the Aortic Valve, and a Dacron Ascending Aorta graft. Why would they need to do a tissue match?

    Well, we have a date

May 8th 2012, AVR, replacing the bicuspid valve, the aortic root and a portion of the ascending aorta. Tissue valve. We have made our appointment at Northwest Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Dr. McGee. We were there today for some tests and consults and I must say I was very impressed. They were...

    Barring anything unforseen

Does anyone out there think it would be a bad Idea to go on the cruise I have planned and paid for already, say 1 to 2 months after OHS? My only other option is to delay the surgery until after we get back, wich is what I'm leaning towards, not sure if I could get on the schedule befor the end...

    Sternal closures??

Ok, we have an appointment now to talk with the surgeon and get my AVR appointment. Looks like its suppose to be within the next two months. Anyhow, I am new to all of this and of course have some questions. What I am curious about now is the closures. Seems like alot of people have trouble with...

    Well, some good news anyhow

Just returned from my cardiac cath, all of my coronary arteries looked good. Still have to have the aortic valve and root replaced, but at least I dont have to add bypasses and stents too. Doc is looking at about 2 months, has to consult with the surgeon and they will get us a date...

    Diving after surgery?

Anyone know if its ok to scuba dive after getting an AVR? Would there be a difference mechanical vs. tissue. I'm assuming it will take at least a year after surgery befor I'll be ready for the weight of the tanks and whatnot on my back, but after that? Any reason I couldnt go to say 100 feet?

When to get a reop with a tissue valve?

I've been reading the pros and cons of tissue versus mechanical, and have pretty much decided on the tissue, unless the doc gives me good reason otherwise anyhow. But I do have a question. How do they determine when the tissue valve needs to be replaced? Do they somehow monitor it? Or do you...

    Valve replacement??

well, here's the scoop, I'm 46, have a BV, and my aorta is dilated to 4.8 cm. I have moderate regurge, and I get short of breath under activity. I know it will depend on what my doc says, but I dont get to see him for at least a month. Anyone want to venture a guess as to the doc. recommending...
