Merry Christmas to all! Please watch my short film :)

Thanks all. And Happy New year! I used a modified Canon 5D camera with a few primes. I have a car mount and we drove the car looking back onto the boy running. For that shot we used at 650d as it does 50fps which gives a nice slow motion effect. The DSLR cameras are perfect for film/ video...

Merry Christmas to all! Please watch my short film :)

Hope everyone is doing well. It's been over a year since my op and I must say, all is going well so far. So, I decided to make a short Christmas film with a couple of kids! Please be kind and leave comments if you have a spare minute! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgNPf7ORYCQ Mark

    double valve replacement

Just thought I'd mention that if there is any way the Mitral valve can be repaired rather than replaced then this would be a much better option. Mitral valves can quite often be repaired it can give a better long term outcome. I know Robin Williams had an AVR and MV replacement a year or so back...

    Sitting in the E.R.

I'm glad you went to ER to get it checked out, always better to be safe than sorry. Can I ask.. Why is your INR target 2.5-3.5 with a mech aortic valve, especially at such a young age. I thought the standard was 2-3.

    INR Question

I think the reason there is an INR range, such as 2-3 is that it is constantly changing. As Julian said, everyone is different- alcohol, weather, exercise, food all effects INR in different ways. For me, being more active, doing more lowers my INR slightly. The great thing about home testing is...

Anniversary - a bit too much alchohol....

Eating green vegetables isn't a false warning. Eat too much green veg such as spinach and it WILL effect your INR if you are not consistent with your eating habits. It's all about balancing your vitamin K intake. Same with alcohol intake. If it is kept consistent then there shouldn't be any...

Anniversary - a bit too much alchohol....

Guys I think you seriously need to do your research about INR and alcohol. I hope some other members on this site will back me up because thinking alcohol won't effect the INR is VERY DANGEROUS AND IRRESPONSIBLE. Sure it may not effect some people but it is a well know FACT that alcohol binges...

Anniversary - a bit too much alchohol....

Alcohol definitely DOES effect INR in lots of patients. Warfarin gets broken down in the liver and alcohol has an effect on this. Although it doesn't seem to effect my INR at present I know many people where their INR has gone over 4.5.

Anniversary - a bit too much alchohol....

I drank far too much a few weeks ago (about 2 bottles of wine!!) and my INR was only 2.5 the next day (was 2.1 the day before). I have a home monitor and check when I have a crazy night out or if I'm on antibiotics etc. Anyway, I don't recommend drinking lots but for me there will be odd nights...

    Right arm pulsating/ twitching

Hi all Hope everyone is doing well. My right arm (inner triceps area) randomly started twitching today and is still doing it.. It is like it is pulsating although it doesn't correlate to my heart beat in any way. I'm sure this is nothing to worry about and I seem to remember having this years...

Life Expectancy... of Valve or Person?

Lots of people including me have asked this question and as others have mentioned valve related incidents are very low if INR level is correctly maintained and you take overall good care of yourself. All Mechanical valves used today will last 200+ years given the chance. Statistically life...

Looking for advice on Tissue V Mechanical valve

I have had a mechanical valve for 6 months now. I've been in two helicopters, run every day, swim, go to gigs, out with friends, drink (in moderation) and can't think what I wouldn't be able to do about from the very obvious contact sports which I don't play anyway! I'm off to Brazil next month...

    Constant fear of death

I think it is natural to think about death etc when you have a heart condition. I still do every so often and before my op I did much more frequently. However, recently I have seen footballers drop dead (and nearly as in Muamba's case) at their peak physical fitness, my friends cousin died at...

Bacterial Endocarditis=Damaged Aortic Valve -36 years old:)

Welcome! I'm glad your new cardio has recommended surgery- with moderate to severe leakage the heart is constantly working harder and harder. This is clearly not good and the more this goes on the more the heart will get damaged. People can feel fine but this doesn't mean the heart is ok... A...

Doctor said they never seen this before....

I had my first AVR and had NO symptoms. In fact most surgeons and cardios agree that when symptoms appear there are clearly signs of heart damage. When the op is so safe there is no point waiting too long. Also, mitral valve damage is relatively common as it does have to work harder with a leaky...

    Clicky noise

I had his after my surgery and still do now. It seems to be getting less noticeable. Lots of people here have said that the thumping sensation will decrease over time. It seems like that is the case for me although I hope it gets even better as it's still slightly bothersome at night. Also, if I...

    On-X Aortic Valves and Strokes

Yes, remember many people without mech valves have strokes also so it could have been nothing to do with the valve. G

    Help please, need some advice!

Yes, this is exactly what they said to me and my surgeon said he has seen far too many infected valves after dental work to follow the guidelines.
