Does an active lifestyle decrease the longevity of a bovine aortic valve?

Rosalia, There are lots of posts about this in previous years. Unfortunately there isn't a definitive answer since there are so many variables. Doctors have different opinions about this as you can imagine. I'm a very active road and mountain biker 7 years post op with a Medtronics Freestyle...

    Freestyle Aortic Root Bioprosthesis ?

I have a 4 year old 29mm Medtronic freestyle valve. So far so good. I have another friend who has gone 11 years so far with his freestyle valve. I don't know how long mine will last, but I hope to go 10+ years, but you never know.

Migraine triggered by heart rate with exercise

Count me as another who sometimes suffers from migraine auras after exercise. This has been an ongoing issue for me since my surgery in 2012. I wish I knew the cause myself, but I haven't found many correlations to this point. For me, the migraine auras come afterwards, usually anywhere from...

    Golf?

I'm an avid golfer and golf was one of the last things my surgeon allowed me to do. I had to wait 12 weeks postop (full sternotomy, AVR and root aneurysm). My first postop round was a joyous occasion for me, even though my score wasn't great. I appreciate golf even more now than I did before I...

Resuming bicycling after OHS - sternum healing

Forgot to comment on the tires also - I used to ride 700x23c's and have since only ridden 700x25s on wider rims. Love wider rims and tires and the ability to run lower pressure! I figure a little more comfort is worth it for me.

Resuming bicycling after OHS - sternum healing

I was approved to ride after 8 weeks and actually rode after about 9 (full sternotomy for AVR + graft). I raised my stem on my road bike about a 3/4 of an inch or so just to make it a bit easier and that helped. Honestly, I was a bit scared to fall and break my sternum again but everything...

Intro and First post-op Century Ride

No limitations from my cardiologist or surgeon, but self imposed limits for these reasons: Looking into tissue valve durability, honestly there isn't very much specific data with regard to athletic training. There isn't any specific data or studies that I'm aware of with regard to the...

Intro and First post-op Century Ride

Hello fellow valvers, I'm an avid cyclist in my mid-forties who was diagnosed last April with a 7.5 cm Aortic root aneurysm, with moderate aortic valve leakage and left ventricular enlargement. Yes, I'm lucky to be here :biggrin2:. Prior to that time I had only had a few random episodes of...
