    Collateral damage?

Yep, my right shoulder but it's getting better now. My ribcage is still numb however at 6 months. Is this normal? I feel like I'm held together with a big rubberband!

    Ladies--bra, underwear in hospital??

I never wore a bra in the hospital nor did I get out of the hospital gowns. I had two surgeries and was opened twice in 12 hours and nobody said anything about a bra. My chest was so sore that I didn't wear one until I started cardiac rehab at 6 weeks. My catheter was in for about 10 days so...

Conflicting Stories = Anxiety & Panic for a new "possible" BAV-er

Wow, so much info for you to absorb. Maybe someone's history with BAV will help. Here's how I got to the operating table. I was diagnosed with a childhood murmer at age 13. In my 20's, I was in an aerobics class and almost passed out. That's probably when I had my first echo. I was told it...

    Movement and clothing post-surgery

Pat, I'm almost 6 months post op and still don't like anything with buttons on my chest. Go with the fleece and any kind of sweatshirts for warmth. I had no problem lifting my arms to pull clothing over my head but I couldn't do it alone and I couldn't get it off alone. I had no problem...

    Bracing Myself for tomorrow

Rick, prayers are being sent your way. The hospital food was horrible but for some reason, the nurses making me beg for those ice chips seems like yesterday. I have never been so thirsty in my life. I actually asked for rags for my head and tried to suck the water out of them! Hope you...

I too am so sad by your loss. Valerie was so alive and I followed her posts and she was so special. Please know that my prayers are with her family at this terrible time.

    3 days before AVR

Mac, time will fly and you'll be on the other side before you know it. My prayers are with you. I didn't get nervous until the night before surgery but when they wheeled me in the OR, I was ready and very calm. Good luck and let us know as soon as you feel up to it.

Ottawagal is back in the hospital

Oh no, please tell her we are all praying for her healing! I had the fluid problem and fever also. Once they get rid of the fluids, she will feel so much better. Tell her to keep smiling.

Im doing good, nervous, but come to terms with my Ross AVR coming up next week

Hi Valerie, my prayers are coming your way. The worst part for me pre-surgery was my surgeon had an emergency and my 10 am surgery didn't happen until almost 5 pm. The waiting all day was horrible but once they wheeled me in the operating room, all I remember is how sterile it all looked, a...

    Tooth pain?

I had sensitivity on the right side of my teeth also. Hot coffee was painful for several weeks. It's gone now thankfully. I was on the vent for 2 days and that may have been the cause.

Welcome home! Take it slow and easy and enjoy being waited on!

How old were you when you had your AVR?

I was 2 months shy of turning 59 and I chose tissue at my surgeon's suggestion. One of my biggest fears is having to go through OHS again at an older age and I sometimes wonder if I made the right choice but so far, so good. My cardiologist has a very positive attitude and tells me my cow...
  14. LauraS

I recently went off it after taking it for 3 months. I had floaters in my left eye and was getting shortness of breath. As soon as my cardiologist took me off the Amiodarone, the shortness of breath went away. My chest xray was clear and he said the drug was probably causing it. I also had...

    I made it!

Danny, so glad things went well and you're on the road to recovery. It took me about 10 days in the hospital before I knew I could ask them to not wake me up all night long for breathing treatments, etc. That 4:00 am sponge bath killed me! They started leaving me for last and some mornings I...

    Shortness of Breath is Back?

Thanks all. Boring is good! I was getting floaters in my left eye from the Amiodarone and involuntary movement in my arms and legs. When I told him that, he said both symptoms were very common with that drug but it was time for me to go off it. I know it'll be in my body for a while but I'm...

Who has gotten the H1N1 (swine) flu shot?

My cardiologist told me yesterday that he does not want me to get the swine flu shot. He said he is not allowing his family either to get it. He told me to just get the regular flu shot. I'm not commuting on subways anymore and am seldom around children since my grandkids are in Florida...

    Shortness of Breath is Back?

I am so happy tonight. Saw my cardiologist today and I'm not in a-fib anymore. I was back in normal sinus! He's sending me for an echo and chest x-ray just to be sure I don't have fluid again but he said he didn't hear anything. He said the shortness of breath could be from the amiodarone so...

    Shortness of Breath is Back?

Thanks all for your responses, thoughts and prayers. You're right in that we can drive ourselves crazy self-diagnosing. I haven't gained any weight and take 40 mg of lasix every other day now. My doctor has a 24 hr. service and has told me to call anytime which I'll do tonight if it gets...

    Shortness of Breath is Back?

I'm 3 months post op now and was feeling pretty good. Two days ago, I started getting shortness of breath again even at rest and I know I have to call my doctor tomorrow morning but I am so scared of what could be causing this. I'm still in a-fib and taking Amiodarone. I know the a-fib can...
