Do you have your gallbladder? Sometimes gallbladder pain is felt in the shoulder. It also can come and go with no rhyme or reason. And it can be bad-in many people they think they are having a heart attack...

    Pacemaker Poll

My mom had a biventricular pacer put in a year and a half after her mitral replacement/bypass surgery. They also had implanted a defribrillator as well-but at her last battery replacement they removed it because she had zero shocks in over a decade. I think this pacemaker has helped her...

    Your advice is sought!

I live south of Kansas City. My mom had her surgery and cardiologist out of Menorah Medical Center In Overland Park outside of KC)-very good surgeon and care there. Between the two hospitals-I personally would choose St Lukes over KU Med for cardiac care. Basically for the reasons Tom has...

    CHF

My mother had/has CHF before and after her surgery. Her piggy mitral valve is on year 14 still working great. Her EF is in the normal range-but it has been a tightrope for her. She is on lasix, coreg, etc to help keep the chf in check. She also has a biventricular pacemaker that has done wonders...

    Tissue Regrets??

My mom has had a porcine mitral valve since April, 2005. She had rheumatic fever as a child and the valve finally needed to be replaced. She was 65 then. Fast forward to now-she is 78 and that piggy is still going strong. Feel very blessed-not sure what will happen if it needs replaced. She was...

    Is Hydrochorothiazide safe?

My mom has been on this for years-still not a diabetic -and she is 76 now. She has always had high cholesterol so I don't thnik this was a factor.

    Should I be worried?

Henna Carvedilol really helped my mother increase her ejection fraction too. My moms before surgery was in the 20 percent range. Last echo 55 percent. Didn't happen overnight but it definitely helped. :)

Did you end up with a pacemaker when you had your valve replaced?

Hi London Andy! Yes my mom got a biventricular pacemaker about a year after her valve surgery. Hers was due not so much for the electrical function of her heart but that her heart was not beating in sync-the pacer helps both sides beat together. It helped her heart function tremendously. She has...

    Life Expectancy after Valve Replacement

My mom was very sick with severe mitral valve regurgitation in April, 2005. It was so bad at the time she needed a balloon pump in her heart so she could make it to surgery. It was due to rheumatic fever as a child. She had it replaced that month with a pig valve. She was 64. Forward to...

Anyone remember valve replacement.com from 10 years ago?

I do! This site rocks! My mom had a mitral valve replaced with a tissue in April, 2005. She was very sick, near death. Ten years out she is doing very well! Just had an echo today. They are monitoring her Aortic valve too as it is moderately stenotic-but holding steady from a year ago. SO blessed :)
