    Howdy - AVR coming up!

I love anything American IPA....single's, double's, hazy, west coast or new england :) We have a decent craft beer culture/scene here in Australia, but nothing like the US I'm getting thirsty now :D Funnily enough, I would've been in the US (Austin, TX) the week of my surgery for a work...

    Howdy - AVR coming up!

Thanks so much, I will for sure reach out when needed :) Interesting you were back at work so soon. I've taken 1 month off work and then see how I go from there. I can imagine. As much as I think I'm prepared, I know it's going to be very tough in the short-term and nothing like I've ever...

    Howdy - AVR coming up!

Nice sounds like you making good progress. I'm scheduled Monday the 25th of July. I will be admitted to hospital day before. I also work in IT for a global US software company (pre-sales engineer role). Cheers, Tim.

    Howdy - AVR coming up!

Ok cool. I might bite the bullet and get one prior. Thanks mate. I will certainly reach out! That's what I thought....surgeon said he preferred ATS with the bentall procedure. He said it's also quieter?

    Howdy - AVR coming up!

So....My date of OHS is Monday the 25th of July to replace my BAV, dilated aortic root and ascending aorta with the graft (Bentall procedure). Surgeon has recommended the Medtronic ATS mech valve for the Bentall procedure which I think is this one? Open Pivot Mechanical Heart Valve Apparently...

    My AVR OHS Experience

Great advice, thanks Tim very helpful. I guess you can take positive that you have the dodgy valve out! Did you have the aortic graft done too?

    My AVR OHS Experience

Hi Tim, Glad to hear you're on the other side. I still don't have a date for my surgery yet but looking like end of this month, early July. Reading here everyday gets better post Op which I hope is the case for you (and me after it's done). Cheers, Tim.

    Warfarin is very tweaky

Happy Birthday Chuck! That steak and beer look amazing :) I can't wait to post a picture like this after my Bentall operation is done and I'm recovered :D PS The beer looks like an IPA or hazy IPA?

    Howdy - AVR coming up!

Hey Tim, Ta for the reply! Yes, sounds like we'll be having the Op and recovery similar time. I have 2 tests to go (coronary angiogram and catorid ultasound) then I will book the operation around early June. Yeah this forum has really helped calm my brain too around the Wafarin monitoring and...

    Howdy - AVR coming up!

Yep, that's the plan now. I did ask the surgeon about the On-x valve....apparently the On-x and the graft doesn't come in 'one piece' like the SJM does.

    Howdy - AVR coming up!

Thanks Stevebar. How was your recovery period post Op?

    Howdy - AVR coming up!

Confirmed today with my surgeon I'm getting the Bentall procedure which replace the aortic root and ascending with the dacron sleeve, along with the SJM valve.

    Hello & BAV Replacement Scheduled

Hi Timmay, I too have AVR coming up and have chosen the SJM valve. I'm 42 so the mechanical valve option was the only option in my opinion given my age and don't want to have reoperations in future. Good luck with you operation! Cheers, Tim.

    Howdy - AVR coming up!

I will ask the surgeon on Tuesday. He showed me the SJM valve and sleeve when I had the initial consultation.
