First post from Maryland - advice and support needed!

Yeah he is a little bit on the extreme side I guess, not to mention a bit on the confidence side? I don't think a BAV when necessarily make you more likely to have a heart attack but I imagine anywhere where there's plaque buildup it could happen.

I don't claim to have any expertise on the subject, I work for a water and sewer authority after all.... But there is a fair bit of plumbing involved...., But I could see something coming off of calcified valve causing a heart attack. I mean a heart attack is just a blockage of flow right? From...

Glad to hear your cath turned out well, that is good news when you hear it isn't it?

    Are you more religious?

You say "this thread is now so off topic" But it was off topic of valve replacement from the very first post. Clearly. It had nothing to do with the technical aspects of surgery, choices to be made and recovery and simply about religious feelings before and after. I haven't really seen any...

    Are you more religious?

It is a bit depressing but I guess believing that it is temporary makes it more special in a way. I don't think activity is meaningless, I mean it has meaning to us while we are engaging in it. I'm not sure if a thousand years from now things I'm doing today will really matter to anybody, at...

On- X valve is superior to outdated one like st jude and ATS

I'm no engineer and I don't have a mechanical valve but I thought that the reason for the platelet damage with a mechanical valve also has to do with them not closing gradually like a biological valve?

rumination: is both good and bad

I've always been a pretty optimistic forward-looking person but this past year I have spent a good bit of time looking back and longing for the past and also fearing for the future. By fearing I mean more like what if it isn't as good as the past? What if My wife leaves me or passes first and my...

    Are you more religious?

Agreed. Who knows? I think people have a tendency to lie and steal because they perceive it in their best interest at the time, also they tend to like to help others through things like charity and let everyone know about it which also helps them. As for us finding out in the end I would also...

    Are you more religious?

I agree it is nice to have a civilized conversation regarding these things, unfortunately it's not always the case. Regarding the beginning and the end of the universe and the possibility of other universes, I just think we are too limited in our scientific understanding at this point to know...

    Are you more religious?

I agree that as a coping mechanism it must be helpful. My problem is that doesn't mean it's true. So my inability to believe in religion makes it difficult to derive comfort from it.

That is interesting. Bavaria did my hemiarch and I was on circ arrest but then again I told him to do everything that might be needed while I "had the wheels off" as I didn't want a repeat surgery if possible.

    Whats the point.....................

Okay I know where you're talking about kind of near Bloomsburg college? Yeah I don't know if you've ever been there but I'm basically 5 minutes from sesame place in langhorne.

    Cholesterol

Punks? Why because they disagree with you. Maybe you're right maybe they are dying recommendations seem to change all the time. So nuts are bad for you? Almonds walnuts etc? I can't have a beer or a cup of coffee? I thought that not all fat was created equal. So you're saying that even fish is...

    Are you more religious?

You are correct, the squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that and it's the same here in America. Yes there is more religiosity here than in most Western civilized countries but the reality is most people give lip service to it and here in the suburbs of Philly I don't think it's as pronounced...

    Are you more religious?

First of all I want to say any disagreements I have are done respectfully. Also I don't claim to know anything and I actually hope there is an afterlife, assuming I go to the right place but...... The argument that this couldn't have all just come into existence on its own at least equally...

    Are you more religious?

That has always been the impossible question to me, not even to get into the scientific aspect of it, the fact that so many bad things happen to so many good people. Like a pedophile lives to a ripe old age and dies in his bed yet there's a child cancer ward in the hospital... Of course then...

    Are you more religious?

Well I will agree with you in so far as if people don't want to discuss this subject they can avoid the thread So I'm not saying it should be removed but..... Science is far more objective than religion, your point about the eggs actually makes my point. Science changes its opinion when new...

    Ok to play football?

That is true, I haven't thought about that too much but I didn't discover my situation until I was a couple of weeks before my 45th birthday. So all those years I never had it in my mind that I would need a surgery like this, then I was fortunate to have found it when my aneurysm was almost 5 cm.

    Ok to play football?

I get where you're coming from, I mean I first spoke to a cardiac surgeon at the age of 45. I may not have been into a lot of contact sports at that time but I was very active, still am. Also I'm not on warfarin but that was a distinct possibility at the time. If my valve needed replaced I was...
