How has it been since your Valve replacement?

15 years & 5+ months (5/2/05). Edwards Lifesciences Perimount Magna (bovine pericardial). Also graft of ascending aorta (Boston Scientific). I was age 60 at the time, so I am 75 (almost 76) now. As for Benjamin Franklin, his brilliance also applies to playing squash!

Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

I got my Edwards bovine pericardial valve in May, 2005, so it is 15+ years old. At the same time, I also got a graft of the ascending aorta (Boston Scientific). Both procedures went well. I was 60 years old at the time, so I am now 75. I am quite active, and the valve is still going strong.

Do you take amoxicillin @ dental visit?

Yes, 2000 mg of amoxicillin should absolutely be taken one hour before a dental visit. Indeed, the dentist should not see you unless you confirm that you have done this. Also, it happens that I had a much-postponed dentist visit this past week after a recommendation from my cardiologist, who...

Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

May 2, 2005 (15+ years) with bovine pericardial aortic valve (Edwards Scientific) plus graft of ascending aorta (Boston Scientific). Now 75 years old, and regular checkups are excellent. Happy to respond if anyone has questions.

Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

My Edwards bovine pericardial aortic valve (Magna Perimount) is now 14+ years old (since May 2, 2005). It is still going strong, and I could not be more pleased. FYI, I was 60 years old at the time of the operation, now going on 75.

Considering the end of VR.org - Looking for your thoughts

My aortic valve replacement happened in March, 2005, after my asymptomatic bicuspid aortic valve was discovered by a very smart doctor, I went into planning mode, consulting with cardiologist and CT surgeons, and (by pure luck) ran into VR.org. This wonderful site has brought me into contact...

Hello Bob, I have not been active with VR.org for a while, though still logging in occasionally to see what's happening. I thought of you just now as I was reading over old messages, including a very thoughtful message from you about 10 years ago regarding PVCs. It reminded me that you seemed...

1 Week After Surgery Update - Video

Thanks for the smiles! Thanks for the smiles! Hello Dan, Nancy & I love your video! And your joyful smiles, which light up the room. Don't overdo, but keep walking. For what it's worth, I measured my walks and increased the distance gradually over the first few weeks post-op, and it was...

I'm So Vain - Scar Healing Products

I like my scar - believe it or not I like my scar - believe it or not Well, my wife likes my scar (3+ years old and getting smoother), and guys in the gym (those who don't know me well) don't know whether to comment or pretend they don't see it, which gives me a chance for a smug, private...

    Can I travel?

Hello Swatig, After I was diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis, my cardiologist and surgeon both strongly advised against air travel. It was a kind of cost-benefit analysis. On the one hand, they noted that the probability of something bad happening (triggered by a sudden loss of cabin...

    Children of BAV patients

BAV Family Checkups BAV Family Checkups When I learned that my BAV might be genetic, I consulted with my doctors about this very question. Reconnecting with VR.com friends

After 4 months of anticipation and fear and with a lot of support from many of you, my surgery on May 2 did finally happen (as my wife, Nancy reported at the time). AVR with a CEPM bovine pericardial, graft of a few inches of my dilated ascending aorta. And everything went extremely well...
