    Alcohol free wine and warfarin...

I've noticed a small spike the morning after a few glasses of wine. Hard to say for sure that it was directly related. In general, consistency should keep the playing field level. Live your like, adjust the dose.

    Endocarditis avoidance

I believe that my endocarditis was assisted by stress and being overly tired from a new job and relocating my family. I think that my immune system was compromised. I've also read that immume systems can be compromised by long runs, particulary long races where you give it your "all". So, get...

Almost a 4 mile brisk walk today

Congratulations on your early progress, your work ethic, and your desire to give back. After surgery I had neither the inclination or the courage to exercise. I was sedentary and over weight prior to surgery and was satified to survive. You drive to thrive. More power to ya! It's folks like...

    Pericardial effusion

I had over a liter of fliud drained from my pericardium about 2 weeks after AVR. I had mistaken my Coumadin dose. Dumb mistake. I was given 3 bags of plasma to counteract the overdose. But a few days later I developed SOB. After a few days more, the SOB was so bad that I could hardly walk...

    Inr

Waiting 5 days defeats the effectiveness of the process (as you are experiencing). Why bother? I hope that's not the case. We need to have confidence that our results and ensuing instructions are well-vetted and personalized to our situation. Protocols and standards are fine, but...

Must-do suggestions before surgery? Even if they're scary ...

Will Living Will Medical Power of Attorney I saw no need to further unsettle friends and relatives with any thing more in advance of my demise, so no letters from me. But perhaps there is some special instruction or communication that you might want to prepare.

    INR dropping after increased dosage

I agree with all of this......not to get too excited about 1.9......not to over react with the next dose.....don't expect results over night.....disappointment that testing the next day was even considered.

    Ibuprofen and Warfarin

My understanding is that the risk of using Ibuprophen is not changing blood checmistry, but irritatung the stomach lining that could bleed.

Reminder: Medical Alert info bracelet, necklace, etc.

I never leave home without it. I take it off to sleep and to swim. I also use it as a medicine reminder. It goes on the the morning after I take my morning meds, and comes off at night after I take my night meds.

    Am I being unfair?

No, you are not being short sighted. You have no obligation to get "3 bids". Your only obligation is to yourself and your family to make a good decision. Chicago is a big place with lots of top choices. You will select a great one. Checkout the hospitals. Your surgeon-select may have...

    10 Years Valve

I was tearing up while I wrote the letter and posted it. Here I go again. I'm humbled to be helpful to others in here. I'm glad I can give back now and then. After having a recent dibilitating experience with c.diff, I'm reminded of how powerful and necessary it is to have hope. Pass it on...
