A tale of Endocarditas and valve replacement.

Welcome James. I got my endocarditis from having treatment for kidney stones back in 2004 and they didn't prescribe any antibiotics which were recommended for the procedure, I later discovered. I developed endocarditis but didn't realised, was just very unwell for about 10 days or so, then...

    Small magnets and mechanical valves

I have to confess that I took a photo of myself with fridge magnets stuck to my sternum wires, I think that a number of us did that way back. :)

Need INR at 1.8. Reducing Warfarin question..

Twice since starting on warfarin 14 years ago I have had to come off it in order to have kidney stone treatment. I was told to stop taking warfarin a week before and to start injecting Clexane once a day until the day before my procedure. The first time I wasn't given advice or anything else...

    Eight years and ticking on...

This time 8 years ago I was on the table, I woke up obviously. :D No problems in the past eight years, just an annual check up at the hospital following an echo and ECG. Also my GP sees me for a general check every three months for my repeat prescriptions.

this is the freaking craziest disease ever!

As has been said, you can go down hill very fast. With me they said that I had the two leaking valves and to wait and see, that was late April, by early June I was in severe heart failure and was told that I needed surgery within a couple of weeks, they operated at the end of June. I wish that...

Which tea won't affect my INR?

I am not sure if it was on here or another site but I remember a woman posting to say that she had huge problems with bruising (I think) which were attributed to Chamomile oil that she had been bathing in for the past week, a gift to her. She was told by a doctor that Chamomile should be...

Dental extraction with INR of 4.7

This is the second molar that I have had extracted since being on warfarin, the other one was a bit loose, the last time my INR was about 3.6 and he stitched then too and again I had no bleeding at all. It is now more than nine hours since the extraction and still no sign of any bleeding. I...

Dental extraction with INR of 4.7

I just thought that it might put some minds at rest to post this. This morning I went to the hospital dental department as I had a molar which had partly broken, they phoned to ask me to be there for 11.15 as the dental surgeon had a cancellation so could see me then. I took some antibiotics...

Need new medical alert bracelet, and imput on what needs to go on the emblem!

I take part in emergency services simulated major incidents and a few years ago they were testing out the new A&E Department at the hospital. The staff had to do exactly what they would do if it was for real and my MedicAlert bracelet was checked about six times by various people as I was...

Uk nhs - choosing a mechanical valve

There was someone in the west country who got an On-x but he had to convince the surgeon to do it. My valves were done through St George's, ie I had the consultant from there but privately in St Anthony's, I was just asked whether I wanted mechanical or tissue, I was 57 at the time so went...

    infective endocarditis!

I had endocarditis and no one has mentioned mouthwash to me, just using little brushes between my teeth. I am not permitted to use my private dentist any longer, I have to see the dental surgeon at our hospital dental department for my checks and treatment, in fact I am to go later this month...

Should I say about my little hear condition during an interview ?

Say nothing about it unless you have to. I was about to work for our local government here in Jersey and they made me go for a health assessment and of course I had to fill in the form honestly, it basically cost me the job as they would only give me a zero hour contract and when they were able...
