    Nervious about husband's surgery

I had my BAV replace when I was 34 in 1998. The following link will take you to my heart story. https://mendedhearts.org/a-heart-patient-fights-for-his-health/ In addition, the follow link is a story that involves me in the Mended Hearts magazine on page...

Still struggling cardio wise running, etc. 2.8 years after Aortic Valve replacement

Heck yes. I'm a cyclist and after my 2nd, really had low stamina issues when riding. A couple things: 1. Beta Blockers really messed with me...not a fan. 2. I switched to a Whole Foods Plant Based life (read anything Esselstyn either Rip or Caldwell.) I almost gave up cycling in 2017 and then...

    Family planning

Great quote! Are you going to screen for everything that could go wrong? I had BAV, but have a child with Down syndrome. I have 3 more daughters and one has connective tissue issues and one is hypo thyroid and one rides horses. If you are that scared, I would consider not having kids until...

    Morning vs. evening anti-coagulation dose

I didn't write "before". That was your interpretation. I have been slightly low and they wanted me to take an extra half pill.

    Morning vs. evening anti-coagulation dose

Mornings for me. An anti-coag clinic I went to for a couple years had a sign on the wall stating to tell patients to take it in the evening. However, my Cleveland Clinic anti-coag clinic regularly asks if I have taken it yet when I get tested at 7:30AM

    Minor milestone today, 3 months

I just do not understand the need to test weekly. I am not a medical person, but the ranges are guidelines, not hard and fast rules. Being point one high, you will not bleed out and point one low will not cause clotting. I eat a plant based diet. Meaning only plants. I test every 6 weeks...

    Minor milestone today, 3 months

I just don't understand why people are taking their INR reading to the Nth degree. Pick a testing method and stick to it. This is not rocket science. If so, our ranges would not be so inexact. I was given a 1.5 - 2.0 range because that is what On-X determined was OK. The staff would freak...

    HEART KNOCKING?

I do not feel every heartbeat, but i feel enough of them. It is really bad at the night for some reason. I can take a nap and it doesn't bother me, but at night...wow! I tell people it is as if someone is pulling on your earlobe with every beat. Meaning it gets annoying. However, it is...

    Bad Fatigue

In 2010, prior to my 2nd OHS/AVR, after a 68 mile bike ride, I began having lower stamina. I hoped the surgery would relieve this...it did not. For years I thought it was due to OHS. Two years ago, I went Whole Food Plant Based and my fatigue went away. My stamina improved. Glad to answer...

What are the benefits of the surgery and how long will they last?

Not dieing is just one of the benefits. It may not even be one of the urgent benefits. Other benefits include: * A better quality of life * seeing children and grandchildren grow up * Membership in a great group of people that associate here * for me, I started working our with the local HS...

Having anxiety, my first PV replacement...at age 30

Welcome aboard. Heck yes, this is scary. I recommend making sure you do your research. You want a Dr that is familiar with both TOF and has a lot of experience with second surgeries. I do not fully understand the process, but there is likely to be a lot of internal scare tissue that will...

Time between meeting surgeon and surgery

I've yet to meet Dr Cozgrove. He replaced my AV 8 weeks after I met the cardiologist at the CCF in 1998. I met Dr. Pettersson, and waited 25 days. Originally scheduled for 5 weeks out. My twin brother met Dr Pettersson the night before surgery. Not an emergency. He just managed to get it...

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Ross Procedure?

This may be unpopular with Ross Procedure fans, but my question is "why compromise one valve to repair another valve?" I just don't get it. In 1998, when one local surgeon suggested the Ross Procedure, I ran it by Dr. Cozgrove's nurse. His reply was simply "Where did you hear about that, we...

    Running after AVR

Well, that sucks. I have issues with low stamina. I get tired easily and cannot go as long or as often as before. I'm a cyclist. I had similar problems to you after my second surgery. For me it was the Beta Blockers. I have tried a couple, but even at low doses, they had adverse effects on me.
