Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

11 years at age 50 with Edwards. It’s starting to show calcification but it’s not leaking. I know I will need another one in the near future. I liked the fact that it was maintenance free but I’m leaning towards a mechanical next time.

    Extreme exercise

My cardio doctor recommended that I don’t let my heart rate go above 150 bpm and not do do things like pull ups. I have a tissue valve in the aortic position and everything is good. I’m really missing pushing my exercise to the maximum, it’s fun for me. I used to ride my bicycle for hours at...

    DO MACHANICAL VALVES FAIL

Mechanical valves are supposed to last a lifetime, but do they always? If tissue valves fail they usually give you warning signs . If a mechanical valve does fails would it just stop? I've seen lots of post with mechanical valves that have lasted, but are there post that state they haven't?

Is it okay to get your heart rate up?

I have a aortic tissue valve. Is it okay to get my heart rate up to 180-190 b.m.p. during exercise? I'm not on any meds. My heart really hasn't changed after surgery. I'm still able to run almost like before, I'm just more worried that bringing my heart rate up to the maximum might be a bad...

Tissue valve anniversaries over 10 years?

The majority of TISSSUE valve anniversaries I'm seeing are one or two years. Why are there not long term ones? ( over 10 years ) I'm on my fifth year now and would like to see some encouraging posts.

    What does atenolol do ?

Slower heart rate and exercise Slower heart rate and exercise If Bryan B is correct, would exercising be bad for the tissue valve because it brings the heart rate up?

    What does atenolol do ?

I had avr in June 2008. Feel great! My cardio has me taking a small dose of Atenolol. Does it lower your heart rate? If so why is it good to keep your heart rate down? Does a higher heart rate cause problems? My resting hr is about 55 on it, it wasn't much higher before surgury.

    Heart Rate During Exercise

Can a high heart rate damage a tissue valve? Can a high heart rate damage a tissue valve? I'm back to running and biking also. I feel almost as good as before avr. I'm about 3 years post op. I just still worry about the cow valve flapping too fast making it more susceptible to tearing, or when...

How much exercise can i do ?

Thanks to all that replied ! It really helps. Is calcification the only thing that causes the tissue valve to fail ? I had no calcification in my original valve so should I have a better chance of the tissue valve not getting any ? Maybe all by biking kept it off. I like dtread...

How much exercise can i do ?

About a year and a half ago, I developed Viridans Streptococcus which caused endocarditis which resulted in aortic heart valve replacement surgery. My aortic valve has been replaced with a Carpentier-Edwards Perimount Magna Model 3000 tissue (cow) valve. I’m 50 years old. Prior to the surgery, I...
