Major surgery after AVR and aneurysm repair

Hi all... just wondering if anyone has had to go through a major surgery some years after a successful AVR and repair for an aortic aneurysm. Are we treated a little differently in hospital even if we feel healthy and all is well? I will be scheduled for a hysterectomy soon and am wondering...

Does an active lifestyle decrease the longevity of a bovine aortic valve?

Hi all, I am wondering if anyone knows where to find the answer to this question, if, indeed, there even is one. Does a more active lifestyle decrease the longevity of an aortic tissue valve? I am not an elite athlete by any means, but do like to jog, walk, and go to the gym. I work full...

Tissue Valvers. How Old is Yours?

Hi Doclewis - you and I had the same procedure - except mine was 3 1/2 years ago with the Carpentier Edwards Perimount Magna Ease Aortic (21mm)... things are going very well! I was 51 at the time, and had quite a roller coaster ride trying to decide between mechanical and tissue. I ended up...

    Sternal Wire Removal?

I had one broken suture that bothered me for a whole year before someone took it seriously enough to get it fixed. There was a lot of mistaken reasons as to why it hurt, but the x-ray clinched it. Basically, my surgeon fit me in between two OHS's over his lunch.. yes I was under, but it took...

    Staying the Course -- 10-30-2018

Hello! I haven't posted in ages, but feel I need to start coming back online here where people understand my condition. Anyways, I totally get it about the sloppy eating. I have been in some sort of sugar addiction mode for the past four days. (maybe a few more) and am starting to feel an...

Bouts of lightheadedness and flashes in eyes one year post-op

Maybe there is something to that - I don't know about anyone else, but when I first woke up my upper back was in agony from having been held down during surgery... you all might be onto something! Did anyone else experience that? The upper back pain after surgery? It subsided quickly enough...

Bouts of lightheadedness and flashes in eyes one year post-op

Thanks for posting everyone. I have had Ocular migraines (I think that's the same as Migraine aura) since the birth of my first child, in 1990. i was concerned the first time because, of course, my sight is compromised while they occur. My GP at the time told me to take ibuprofen when I see...

Bouts of lightheadedness and flashes in eyes one year post-op

Thanks Superman - it makes me feel better knowing this isn't something ominous brooding on the horizon. I would love to have the alertness back I used to have though, before all this happened

Bouts of lightheadedness and flashes in eyes one year post-op

Bouts of lightheadedness and flashes in eyes one year post-op

Hello all, I had my bicuspid aortic valve replaced with a tissue valve as well as an aneurysm in my ascending aorta repaired November 16, 2015; more than a year ago. I have had bouts of feeling light headed, and lately it comes with showers of white flashes in my eyes. Occasionally I feel...

    Cold, tingly hands

Hello all I was wondering if anyone had the experience of cold hands and feet. I have noticed that upon waking my hands are experiencing a little of the pins and needles thing, and when I am outside they are downright freezing. The weather is changing up here in Ontario, and it is getting...

    Staying the Course -- 10-17-2016

You know what they say, worrying about what may or may happen is worse then knowing. Try to stay calm and distract yourself with happy doings until next month. Easier said then done, but in the end better for you and your ticker :)
