    A Double-Whammy -- can you believe this???

Hope both brothers are doing well. My doctors suspected (correctly) endocarditis but the TEE did nothing to confirm nor deny. They identified it finally at surgery time and were able to remove all vegitations. Now that they have him on killer IV antibiotics I'm sure he'll be feeling much better...

    Need advice about kids

I say let them decide, my son was a bit older than yours are and he was relieved to see me after surgery. You know them best though and are likely the best judge of how they will handle it. I agree with Matbunch, it will help them cope now and in the future. Tell them that you'll probably look...

    Shirts for the hospital

I liked mens short sleeved button front shirts, they were oversized for me , had big wide sleeves and a nice big pocket for the moniter. You can find some quite nice ones, even pink! for pants I preferred yoga pants, easy to get on, off and sleep in.

Doctor said they never seen this before....

Some people worry about insulting the Doctor by seeking another opinion, Please DON"T. If the Doctor is insulted by this you definately want a different doctor. It's your life and you and your family deserve the peace of mind the second opinion will give you. Good Luck Youngmom

    Endocarditis avoidance

I had endocarditis requiring valve replacement last April. Due to rheumatoid arthritis I take immunosuppressants daily. I try not to worry too much about reinfection and follow all of the precautions already listed. The RA makes me a bit clumsy due to stiff joints and I frequently injure myself...

    Anklosying Spondilitis...?

Sorry to hear about the AS, I have rheumatoid arthritis which is similar. I had endocarditis, they think from a dental procedure while on immune suppresants. What sort of meds are you on for the AS? I chose a tissue valve mainly to stay away from the blood thinners, the less meds the better for...

    An Introduction...

Welcome from a fellow Canadian. Glad you found this site, it was a great comfort for me and will be for you I'm sure. By the time of your surgery I'll be a year post-op. It's not as bad as you imagine I promise, what hospital is doing the surgery?

    Smokers.

Hi Ovie, I had AVR last April and I smoked up untill a week and a half before surgery. I had started to have some shortness of breath (thought it was asthma) went to the doctor and he gave me a puffer, a week later it was worse went to emerg (it was Sunday) and on the ride there was my last...

    infective endocarditis!

Thanks for the info. I too had endocarditis and was never given any advice after valve replacement other than 'practice good oral hygene'. I am on immunosuppressants so the risk for a reoccurance is high with me. All one can do is thier best and then hope for the best that fate provides.

    Looking for some advice please

Hi Sarah, sorry to hear about your problems. I've had pinched nerves in my neck and it feels just as you say. It's a bit freaky though now that I've had heart trouble as it mimics heart symptoms. Happy to hear you are getting some physio, hopefully you get some meaningful relief soon. BTW we...

    You Might be Canadian :D

Forget Rednecks... Here is what Jeff Foxworthy has to say about Canadians, during a recent appearance at Caesars in Windsor : If someone in a Home Depot store Offers you assistance and they don't work there, You may live in Canada . If you've worn shorts and a parka at the same time, You may...

    Good Days vs Bad Days

Hi Ruby, Try not to be so hard on yourself. Your emotions are going to be on a rollercoaster for a while, you've been through a big trama and you're not sleeping well. I know what you mean about your partner being moody and the walking on eggshells thing, my hubby was that way too. I encourage...
