    Is it safe to fast?

My bad. I'm not up on most religious rituals.

Four and a half weeks after SAVR

Same. My rehab will be at the hospital close to home, not where I had my AVR (45 miles away). Unfortunately the first opening is not until July 29th which is around Week Ten for me. Wish I could start sooner.

    Is it safe to fast?

Thanks for the positive comment. Wasn't planning on fasting right away but I am trying to get a healthy lifestyle in place for the long term.

    Is it safe to fast?

Is it safe to fast with a bio-prosthetic valve? I don't mean 40 days or some multiple day fast, I'm talking about 16 to 20 hour fasts several times a week. Short fasts are a way to treat insulin resistance which is a precursor to Type II diabetes. There are a lot of positives to giving yourself...

Mechanical vs Tissue - need help deciding

Your mean spirited response is discouraging. I wanted to get a mechanical valve (age 57) but my heart function was compromised to the point that they were not sure it would restart after surgery. If ones heart does not restart they have to insert a pump to get it going, which they cannot do with...

Four and a half weeks after SAVR

Yeah, the week before my surgery I couldn't even walk to the kitchen sink without taking a break. It's been better from Day One. I'm hoping to adopt a lifestyle that is better than the one I had and treat this valve better than I did the original.

That's more walking than they have me doing...but I usually go a little long. I start cardiac rehab soon and I think there will be exercise involved.

Hello. And help me in planning for bicuspid aortic valve replacement

Hello, I am also 57 and had aortic valve replacement surgery a little over 4 weeks ago. I was doing regular check-ups and echos for years at UW Medical Center and I did have the tests transferred to my new medical provider when I moved. Not sure how CC does it, but based on my experience they...

Four and a half weeks after SAVR

Thanks for the input. I was hoping for sooner but the last thing I want to do is mess up the recovery of my sternum.

Four and a half weeks after SAVR

I am in my fifth week of recovery after having my bicuspid aortic valve replaced with a bovine valve. In the weeks before surgery my ejection fraction was 27% so I have felt better from Day One after surgery. The most uncomfortable part of early recovery was the nasty bedsores I got after 8 days...
