Bleeding Precautions after AVR...riding, climbing, hiking, etc.

My experience is that the extra bleeding is pretty minimal. My INR is normally 2.5-3.0, and I can't really say that I feel that any of the cuts and bruises I have had the last year has been any worse than they used to. So unless your INR is really high, I don't think you should worry to much...

Can you have a stroke or bleeding event when INR is in range?

A lot of factors can lead to a stroke or clotting, not only the mechanical valve, so yes. This can happen. Also remember that your INR can vary greatly from one day to the next. During my "NovembINR" where I tested my INR daily for a month I had variations as high as +/- 0.8 between two...

    Watch it!!!

I have had a few "incidents" where my INR has been way too high. Around 4.5 once or twice. Every time I have kept my schedule and not changed the dose, and every time I have checked my INR again a few days later and have been back in range (2-3). These things happen. Something you ate...

    Vitamin K tablets

Really interesting. I too have very different experiences regarding alcohol and INR. Some times the INR goes trough the roof after a night out. Other days there is no measurable effect. I don't count the exact amount I drink on each occasion, but it does not seem to correlate directly with the...

Revolutionary membrane can keep your heart beating perfectly forever

«You're looking at a rabbit's heart beating outside the animal that once hosted it. It's alive, pumping blood on its own thanks to a revolutionary electronic membrane that may save your life by keeping your heart beating at a perfect rate.»...

    More GAS -- another meter

It will probably just give the values that we already see in the display, but it would be interesting to see if one could get something else as well. Either a more precise number (IE 2.27 instead of 2.3) or maybe some debug information like how the measurements are done, the certainty of the...

    More GAS -- another meter

Hm. I have an IR receiver somewhere. Maybe I should have a look at the data. I guess the protocol is pretty simple and probably without much security built in, so it should be possible to decode it and have the measurements automatically logged.

INR management - current European view

My experience is that my INR varies so much, even from day to day, that having an extremely narrow range, or trying to stay spot on any single value is simply not possible. All it might lead to is to many and to big adjustments of your medication doses. I agree with pellicle that one should...

    One year today!

Nothing much more to say. Life is great. Incredibly impressed with modern health care and science.

    Before and after (graphs)

I actually have a pretty high resting heart rate. Still around 80, but I hope it will be lower as my body adopts even more to the new valve.

    Before and after (graphs)

Oh. And no. I have not used beta blockers for 3 months now.

    Before and after (graphs)

I am not sure how I should interpretate the graphs either. Initially I thought that the saw tooth shaped graphs were a good thing. And reading other posts about interval exercise seems to sort of confirm this. Like from this article...

    Before and after (graphs)

I have collected a few graphs from my exercise-app that are quite interesting. I had my surgery almost a year ago (January 3. 2013), but before that I did not believe I had any symptoms of a heart problem. I exercised quite frequently (2-3 times a week), and had done so for a couple of years. I...

INR is a little high today.............

...himself... (Can't seem to find a way to change my profile picture which would probably clarify this). :cool2:

    Thanksgiving meals and INR?

I have just completed my "NovembINR"-project, where I measured my INR every day for 25 days, and also noted what I ate and had to drink (among other things). This gave me a lot of background information about how quickly my INR changes, and how fast it goes back to normal again. The conclusion...
