Ablation needed near mechanical mitral valve

Not a fib but Vtach yes had ablation not sure if it’s common but it makes sense there might be irrritated areas around a valve that had surgery but the fact that the doctor seems to know where it is is a good sign If they know where it is a good chance they can ablated it

Mitral valve repair - after effects

I had significant v tach before surgery, it got better after. i had a maze procedure done when I had the valve job. Not much Afib at all. V tech was still a problem, so they ablated around the valve and gave me Flecainide

Electrical Problems Related to Mitral Valve?

Wondering if others might have had severe ventricular tach problems seemingly related to a valve, particularly mitral valve, and what options you explored. I consider my case worst case scenario, but I'm told there are others. After extensive testing here's my diagnosis from one if the best...

    Mitral Valve Regurgitation

I'm a bit confused, how could you have had an ablation without an echo before hand done by a very qualified Dr? It is very possible the SVT was related to the MVP, and the echo would also help to confirm if you've have any changes to the left side of your heart. You can have structural changes...

I am a marathon runner with a broken heart

I am not back here too often. Just saw this. My opinion, you'll need to get the valve repaired, and there is a chance you could be doing damage to your heart if you continue to push this out. That was my experience with MV Repair. All that said, you can have a future in running post surgery. I...

    OMG. Almost forgot my anniversary!

Just realized its been 3 years since my mitral valve repair. Dec 27. I celebrated by almost forgetting. So these days I am running about 20+ miles a week. I bike. Swim and do a bunch of other things. Went surfing Xmas eve in the frosty North Atlantic. Just me and some seals. Great waves. I do my...

    Mitral Valve Leakage After Repair

I am now 3 years post MV repair. The repair was done using DaVinci at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. The good news is the my EF is now back up to 70, the palpitations are gone, and per a very recent echo, the left atrium is now almost nornal while the left ventricle is now normal too. Before the...

    Swimming.

I was a big swimmer before and after surgery. I am not sure why, but my swimming actually improved after I fully recovered from surgery. (My biking is just slightly off my pre surgery peak, my running is way way off) I don't think the fact that you had surgery should deter you, but I would...

    Personal Question

I think some of this depends on whether you had the minimally invasive/robotics version or open chest. I can tell you I went out for dinner (and even a drink) 4 days after robotic surgery, and was able to go for progrssively longer walks after a week.

Rehab from ICU to Marathon Finish Line

I set some goals for myself, but then revised them. I feel (at least in my case) is that other variables can play into your "recovery" that make having a rigid set of goals hard to get to. Here's my own situation as of now- -I was really only getting into endurance in a big way as I was...

Probability of contracting Endocarditis in Mexico and the Caribbean.

I spend a bit of time in the carib, and each trip a tremendous amount of that time in the water. I swim 1-2 miles in the ocean at least a few times a week, surf whenever I can, and snorkle the rest. Never even thought about endo. hmm should I be worried? I did feel sick last trip, one day, but...

    Exercise after going of Metoprolol

I was on torpol for years, and i would say my HR was about 10 bpm slower than without. I learned to live with it, maybe even tolerate it better, and in time I was almost able to get my HR up to pre-med levels if I really pushed myself. Not so sure that was a good thing. Now, after MVR surgery...

Went to the EP, nervous to take these new pills

I would ask for a 24 holter before and then a couple weeks after Tambacor (flecainide). I reduced my PVCw by about 70% on a very very low dose of that drug and that was good enough. We had a quantified basis for assessing effectiveness and made an infomred decision not to increase the dose to...

First Post Ever! - Changing cardiologist

The smarty pants answer is to tell your doctor to maybe order an exercise stress test and a stress echo. I am not a doctor, but I can assure you that its impossible for me to detect normal vs obnornal shortness of breath and other stress related symptoms while doing extensive exercise if I have...
