BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

That is fantastic!! One and done! Maybe it's good that you didn't have all these choices back then. Gold ring, indeed! Many more years to you.

I do have some grapefruit on special days, like Christmas morning. I really don't worry about it too much. I stay away from juice, it's not "worth the squeeze" as they say. And I never sugarcoat it!

BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

Yes, I dose the diet as well! I've upped the dose a few times so that I can eat the veggies I want. I feel like I sort of know how much to eat at this point. So which mechanical did you get, and how long have you had it? I'm guessing St Jude?

BAV facing OHS in Oct (AVR and aorta graft)

@HokieHade To share my experience: I had a bicuspid aortic valve, w/ mid-ascending aortic aneurysm. Bicuspid valve was really two leaflets fused together, possibly due to a virus during childhood, who knows. I had an aortic valve/root replacement at age 35 in 2002, with a...

    Second Surgery 20 Years Later

@pellicle @Timmay @tom in MO So, hmm, maybe my memory is incorrect. Maybe he wanted a range of 1.5 to 2.0 for me?? I'll have to go back and look that up. I do know that the upper value was 2.0. But I absolutely agree about the INR range. I have read a lot of posts from @pellicle. I feel...

    Second Surgery 20 Years Later

Just reading your post here, it's somewhat similar to what I went through. I'm 56. I had a bicuspid aortic valve (two cusps fused together), very severe regurgitation, with a moderate mid-ascending aortic aneurysm, 20 years ago, at age 35. They did some genetic evaluations (no gene testing...

    On-X valve 6 weeks later...

@Protimenow Sorry to make you repeat yourself.... My beloved cardiologist retired last month, and I just saw my new one yesterday. He was curious about my mentioning that I was reading some study, blah blah. When I told him that I have an On-X (he seemed to have missed that in my records), I...

    On-X valve 6 weeks later...

I didn't realize the cells here are unique. Huh. The idea of washing the cells out of the valve, leaving just the structure there, was, so I was told, that it would be less likely to "reject" the valve. I use that term loosely. Meaning, that it wouldn't view it as foreign. And it would...

On-X lower your INR target mailer.

I haven't received this yet. I just got my On-X in November last year. Is this being sent to all On-X recipients, or just at the 3-month mark? This isn't a new idea from them. I've been looking at their website for a few years now, seeing the possible reduction of INR being listed as a...

    On-X valve 6 weeks later...

Very interesting. Yes, mine was cryo-preserved and washed of its donor cells. I was in a study for about a year, but that was canceled because the FDA pulled these valves (the aortic ones) off the market. People were getting dangerous fungal infections from donor tissue (for knees, backs...

    On-X valve 6 weeks later...

Yes. It was an aortic valve from a human donor. Processed a bit, washed of its cells and cryopreserved.

I'm with you on that one! The TAVR is a good option for some folks, but for a re-op, not so sure. My first surgeon (20 years ago), my current surgeon, and current cardiologist ALL recommended the mechanical in my case. "We wouldn't have let you make the wrong decision". And my cardiologist...
