A bit fat cup of reality.......................

Even in my woe and melancholy 'oh why me' posts I'm beginning to agree I need this surgery ( actually I have no choice obviously). I saw (somewhat unbelievably) my Cardiologist in person for the first time today (COVID restrictions), its been 7 months since diagnosis and I've seen the surgeons...

    Ok to play football?

Ha ha fair point Superman but its in the post, I don't really want to paint a completely black picture but lets face it it's the truth and nobody really wants any experience in this do they?

    Ok to play football?

When on warfarin you can have a kick about but the insurance at 5 a side centre and any football league will not cover you (This is UK and I've checked). Plus it still gets lively even with the 60+ year olds broken toes, clashes, pushed into hording, balls to the head etc. Regardless of what...

The end of the beginning, the beginning of the end or new beginnings?

For me its about returning as best possible to a reasonably normal life as quickly as possible. I don't think I will need brain freezing at least I hope not the surgeon said he can clamp for the aneurysm. Not having a good day on the worry front as Spring has blossomed the weather is glorious...

The end of the beginning, the beginning of the end or new beginnings?

Ha ha I don't really think you get amateur Cardiothoracic Surgeons plus the Bentall Procedure was invented in the UK so you would think our surgeons would have the hang of it. You can get it done via Mini Sternotomy but it is not prevalent, isolated AVR is done using minimally invasive...

The end of the beginning, the beginning of the end or new beginnings?

In all fairness Chuck I would feel a lot happier if this could be undertaken using minimally invasive methods in the UK but very few if any surgeons would touch a root replacement with AVR without a full zipper. I don't know if this to do with risk or surgical skill a bit of both I guess.

The end of the beginning, the beginning of the end or new beginnings?

The trouble is I'm doing all of that now. This is not a club anybody wants to be a member of really is it.

The end of the beginning, the beginning of the end or new beginnings?

Prior to a complete shock diagnosis of severe aortic stenosis and ascending aortic aneurysm in October 2020 I assumed I was a fit father of three young children who was balanced with a demanding career and happy family life. I have not hidden the fact that this has really shaken me to my core...

    Henrick Lundqvist Recovery

I have watched this video and it seems like very old thinking, to suggest patients would not ask about hemodynamics or life expectancy seems very odd if not a bit condescending. I do not believe ethically at least in the UK repeat business is a driver. In the UK the choice is entirely mine. If...

    Henrick Lundqvist Recovery

So why are so many people choosing a tissue valve solution in my age group? It must quality of life. There is no ambiguity in accepting SVD and the need for additional surgery.

    Henrick Lundqvist Recovery

The problem is the technical guidlines are in contradiction with the choice a lot of patients are making. In reality aortic valve replacement is very very rare in people aged 50 or below outside of forums like this I know and work with hundreds / thousands of people (my site where I work has...

    Henrick Lundqvist Recovery

I don't believe it would be possible for any professional contact sportsman to have a mechanical prosthesis with anticoagulants as they would never get insured or permission to compete from the sports regulators. Even at formal amateur level anticoagulants are a contradiction against play on all...

    Henrick Lundqvist Recovery

I'm 50. Not really encourage as such, really just a question in terms of asking what I do and do not want and as you are aware Chuck the answer is unique really to each of us. Fundamentally what I want is not to have a Stenotic Bicuspid Valve and Ascending Aortic Aneurysm and to have the highest...

    Henrick Lundqvist Recovery

I'm ok thank you, could still be several months until surgery and I am still not fully decided. Personally I really do worry about warfarin and the clicking of a mechanical valve so I need to give the pros and cons very careful consideration. I'm leaning towards either the Edwards Resilla (Its a...

    Henrick Lundqvist Recovery

Some fishing around from my surgeon he reckons Henrik Lundqvist almost definitely has had the Ross Procedure but he could also have had either human (autograft, homograft) or animal (porcine xenografts) just on the aorta/ aortic valve as he would never be able to return to contact sports (at...
