    Sammy's surgery is scheduled!

My surgery was done by Dr Laxs, at Ronald Reagan. Aortic repair and membrain removal from left ventricle. He is great and very knowledgable. The staff in the ICU is spectacular. I know your son will do very well! Presents huh? why did I not think of that. It has been a little over a year...

Numbness at the top of the right leg

I had numbness in my right thigh it bugged me a lot, but once I was moving around I only noticed it when I touched the skin. It felt weird. I am now at month 11 and it is almost completely gone.

Another newbie checking in and TEE ??

Actually, the TEE was the best diagnostics I had. I had already had several echos, and a cath, and still had a vague diagnosis, they found the problem with the TEE. I was very nervous, but other than they stuff they make you gargle and swallow, which was ickey, (they claimed it was strawberry)...

    Question about Post-Surgery Rehab

I went to rehab for eight weeks three times a week. It was truly worth it. They were kind and observant and pushed at the right times. I very highly recommend it if your insurance will pay for it. It is not cheap.

Typical For Surgeon To Call Night Before

My surgeon called the night before surgery, and we talked for quite a while. The anesthesiologist called too. I think I got four calls from the hospital that night. I felt very cared for.

    Driving and Shopping after AVR

I drove at four weeks. My Primary Doc told me to go sit in the car and see how it feels. Look over my shoulder, back the car out of the driveway. If it felt good, go for it. I finally shopped at five weeks, but the clothes soap is still in the car. To heavy to carry in the house. They told...

    weaning from narcs

My surgeon was quite offended that I was still in pain on the second day post surgery. I asked for Ibuprofen, because my arthritis hurt worse than the surgery site. They gave me ibuprophen 600 mgs every four hours, and I was golden. No more pain meds. Laying on your back when you have...

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. It has been a hectic week, lots of preop tests, which all came out great. My EKG was normal! LOL. I will check back as soon as I can. Almost out of the waiting room!!

    I have a date!

The hosptial is 35 miles away, so they are doing all the tests locally, but UCLA won't accept the type and cross match from anywhere else. So I have to just go into LA once before surgery. They want me there at 5:30 am the day of surgery!
