Upcoming second OHS, having trouble deciding which valve this time!

I don't think that is quite so. I'm quite certain there is a limit to how far you can "nest" one TAVR valve inside another inside another, and I would bet that it is a very small number. Can you even put one TAVR inside another? I would guess that if one of those wears out, the surgery to remove...

    Heart rate monitor injury

I picked up an older model Scosche Rhythm arm strap HRM at Walmart on clearance. It uses an optical sensor, like the pulse-ox devices and talks to a smartphone app via bluetooth. I see online that their newer model is about $80 (mine was $20, but only because it was discontinued).

    Turkey Trot #2

Saturday, I did my second Brighton Turkey Trot 5K. Last year was 30:55 and this year was 28:26. I really wanted to get in under 28:00, but I'll take what I got, especially considering the crowd at the start. I figure 11 out of 23 for my group (men 45-49) isn't bad. About 1000 people came out for...

    Swollen ankles...

I've always been told that swollen ankles was right up there with shortness of breath and sudden weight gain as symptoms of heart failure that should result in immediate medical consultation.

Cost of Aortic and Mitral Valve replacements along with repair of tricuspid valve

It definitely depends on your insurance. My AVR "Not a Bill" quoted the total as approximately $150,000. My total out-of-pocket (copay) was $750.

    Two years in

Ha! You just reminded me - My two-year anniversary will be a month past, tomorrow. Been so busy spending quality time with my lovely wife and daughter, working on the house and the cars, riding my motorcycle, and training for the Turkey Trot 5K, I hadn't really thought about my aortic valve...

    Flu Shot Question

You probably want to also make sure you're up on your Tdap booster.

    Flu Shot Question

Like others, I got a flu shot in the hospital before I came home from my surgery. Been getting them every year since, including this year's just two days ago. The only adverse effect I have suffered is a drop of blood on the band-aid, not even any soreness at the injection site.

Resuming bicycling after OHS - sternum healing

One of my coworkers recently had surgery (not heart, no sternotomy involved) and was in a car accident on the way home from the hospital and broke her sternum (on the dash or airbag).

Female, 42, mother, AVR scheduled for 11/4 Seeking likewise for discussions/support

Remember too, Sue, that as we get older (especially over 40) our hormones and body chemistry undergo changes that affect our feelings and desires. My wife and I have been together since we were teens, and were definitely more "randy" back in those days than now. A large part of loving someone...

    Question about sternum pain

There really is a whole range of possibilities that goes across the entire pain spectrum. That is, some people suffer pretty bad pain and may require meds. Others suffer very little or no pain. The only sternum-related pain I had was a short, sharp pain when sneezing or coughing, and some very...

Six weeks after AVR, my surgeon told me to go ahead and do anything I want - no restrictions.
