Controlled AFIB 6.5 years after mechancal aortic valve

I'm scheduled for a cardioversion on June 29th. Hopfully this will restore my normal heart rhythm and take away the SOB. I'll let you know how it goes.

Controlled AFIB 6.5 years after mechancal aortic valve

Thanks all. From what I remember over the past 5 days that I've had it, I had the shortness of breath before I started the medication. I have contacted my cardio to see if he can give me a consultation for my options. This is a big hit to my active lifestyle.

Controlled AFIB 6.5 years after mechancal aortic valve

I've been a member for 6 years, haven't posted for 2 or 3 years. I'm a 48 year old male, 6.5 years out from Aortic Valve Surgery with an On-X mechanical valve. Have been doing great, I'm an aggressive uphill cyclist. Last week started having an irregular heartbeat (suddenly, not while...

My Introduction, Date Set, Decision Time

Murmur, The reasons you give for deciding on a Mechanical were very similar to mine. It seemed to me that getting used to a new normal was easier than having a major operation every decade or so. Blessings on you surgery and recovery.

    The Traveling Bruise

Linda, Had something very much like this happen to me when I banged my shin on a stump in the dark two summers ago in the woods. Hurt at first, a few days later a large purple spot with swelling, then purple splotched down near my foot. I think it took a few weeks for it all to go away...

    Hello, new to forum

It's good you had it dealt with so quickly. 6cm is on the big and risky side as far as aneurisms. Being fit is going to make your recovery go much faster.

ST JUDE & ON-X — Study and Data

I chose the On-X because it seemed like there could be some future advantages. The surgeon was willing to implant it and had done many before, even though he preferred working with the St Jude. At the time there was no clinical reason to choose one over the other, with the exception of the...

To Bridge Or Not To Bridge?

Even with proper procedure - Warfarin bridged with Heparin, events can happen. A week after my AVR surgery, I had an amaurosis fugax (blood clot to the eye), which caused partial blindness in my right eye for a few hours. My INR was 2.2 at the time it happened. However, I've heard the risk...

Does everyone here go through A service?

Allere stinks! The meter is good, and it was made by Hemosense before Alere bought them out, but I don't like their style. They seem to think they're the FBI or something, trying to bully people into using their service. I once called to ask about the test strips and told them I got them...

Surface coating for medical devices prevents blood clotting and bacterial infections

Good stuff. I wonder how this compares with the smoothness of the latest mechanical valve technology like the On-X.

    Concerns about my ticker

AMFT, I would definitely call about the 5-6 episodes of cramping, raised blood pressure and bulging veins. It may not be anything abnormal, but these could be indications of something more serious.

    Sleeping in a bed

I went strait to a bed but had to have wedge pillows that propped me up higher. I could only sleep on my back for about 2-3 months.
