    Help post surgery

Stock up on as much food, including frozen, (and litter for cat) as you can. I spent my rehab time alone without help from anyone. Abandoned.. Try reading print. books--consumes much time alone, away from electronics. People learn to be alone as I have done. (And forums are another kind of...

What kind of regular care should one receive after surgery

I am going to a new cardio doctor tomorrow and wonder what questions I should ask-- Valve replacement, mitral regurgitation and double bi-pass six years and four months ago. No problems. I saw my previou doctor every 6 months and then I skipped 2 appointments--was not needed. They will ask if I...

Do you forget to take your med pills?

For a while now, I forget, or don't want to take my metropol tartrate twice a day and my aspirin. I take it at least once a day. Sometimes I look right at the vial and still don't take it. I dont know why. I tried taking them at different times, at night and during the day I tend to forget or...

    ECHO since surgery

Im confused. Is this your first echo? You have been going every 6 months for what then? I went through cardiac rehab, prior to my surgery, not after. It worked all right that way for me. The drop out rate was high where I went, mostly men.

Anything you wish you did, just before leaving the hospital?

Wish that I had arranged another person to drive me home -- a professional service, not a tardy sister.

    Metprolol tartrate side effects

Why do you put trust in quotes? My cardio dr. says very little in 10 minutes, like the others I have had. I will find another--there are plenty where I live. Like most patients, I don't know much about heart surgery and the heart so I cannot ask the best questions to get answers. They are...

    Sunday Night Chat

I take 25 mg twice a day. I was often short of breath before my heart trouble, probably due to asthma or allergy. Generally, I am in good health according to my lab reports...but I tire very easily, walking flights of stairs leaves me out of breath. Walking is boring to me and tiring. So many of...

Which is better in your opinion?

Paper bags. Easier to be recycled and may be used for garbage. Environmentalists say neither one. Use cloth bags.

    Metprolol tartrate side effects

A side effect of this blood pressure medicine is shortness of breath...also fatigue, less capacity for exercise. I experience these and have been taking it since 2017, after my 2 surgeries. Cardiologist does not connect the medicine with these side effects as cause or effect. Wondering if any...

    A hiccup

I am surprised you are able to write and think clearly, and the nurses allowed you to use your cell or computer!

How often you take Echocardiogram ultrasound test

The reason he advised an echo is because I told him that I am short of breath, but he knows that is a chronic condition from before surgery. My PCP thinks it is from asthma or allergy and I agree. She knows me. He sees me for 5-10 minutes and says almost nothing. I learn as much on this forum as...

How often you take Echocardiogram ultrasound test

Assuming you are years past your valve surgery (mine was mitral valve and double bipass over 5 years ago) how often do you take the test? That is, when your cardiologist tells you to. Do you take it even with no symptoms and feeling fine? I understand its purpose and some patients take no...
