Hey Erwitchin,
Had my valve/aneurysm replacement surgery 2.5 years ago at age 52 and opted for the On-X. Am thrilled with it! Am really upping my exercise and seeing good progress. The warfarin thing has been super easy for me and have not had bruising. Re: sleeping, I've always used a...
Hey Nesphito,
Appreciate your post as we just bought a home in Ogden and are planning to retire there in a few years full time (currently living in NM).
The posts above are great. Two recommendations from me:
- surgery is a big deal. Put in the time and research. Find the best valve...
Sorry KarenK about your troubles with Cleveland. My experience there for my surgery, both medically and financially/administratively, was wonderful. Hope all is resolved and the CC will work out for you.
Scored a night at Phantom Ranch too? Well done. Definitely on the bucket list. Have been to both the north and south rims, and hiked a good bit below each but would really like to do the adventure you did. Congrats on getting it done (twice) - especially with the family!
Yeah, the head shots of soccer would give me some pause. But - re: your question about sports: I weight lift, trail run, mtn bike, sand volleyball and ski tons! Have not had any sports related bleeding concerns over the past 2 years since my surgery and my conditioning is so much better that I...
Groy, sorry about your need for surgery but I commend you for arriving at the decision point that many of us have faced. Understand that there is no right answer - only what is right for you. It's all about what you value most. For me - I placed the highest value on the greatest potential for a...
Hey fellow patroller - and On-X valv'er!!! How cool to hear of you doing well. I got my On-X about 18 months ago. We're still waiting for snow at my mountain (skipajarito.com) but I did patrol last year with it and did many toboggan trips. Wishing you a great season - enjoy Killington, that's...
To be afraid is to be human. Try to focus on the actual risks of the surgery. I was told I faced about 0.5%-1% of death and maybe twice that for a stroke. Those are pretty good odds, made me feel better. I sought out a surgeon and hospital that did this surgery hundreds of times a year. Felt...
Have been lifting for nearly a year after surgery and been doing exactly what Aqua_Grim7 said. Aiming for 20 reps a set is what I do and hopefully that keeps me from straining too much. But, all is going well and I'm happy to be back in the gym (and on the trails).
