Hello Members,

Thank you for reading this. I am working on a research project on heart valve replacement, and am looking for people in the US who received a mechanical replacement heart valve in the past 5-6 years to take our survey. (My father had mitral valve replacement several years ago and he made me aware of this site, which has been a wonderful resource for him.)

Specifically, we are trying to better understand your experience since surgery with warfarin / anticoagulation. The ultimate goal is to share these findings with surgeons, so they can better prepare patients who may need valve replacement surgery in the future. There are no sales involved, and your participation will not be shared with anyone – this study is strictly for market research purposes.

The survey takes about 20 minutes, and for your time we can offer you a $50 Amazon gift card (which we will send by email within 2 days of finishing the survey).

Well I participated in the survey, and thanks for the opportunity.

However, 5mins in apparently I don't qualify for unspecified reasons which is very concerning given the lomited informationyou provided in your post, even though I've had a recent valve replacement. Perhaps the survey should state that you might not qualify and provide some sort of explanation.

Perhaps you should state that there may be reasons tha people won't qualify, and the the $50 won't be shared if you fail to qualify even if you complete many queztions - I cant imagine there are too many to go, jusging by the amount of time and queztions I answered. Aka, is this a scam? Anyone actually received a voucher?

probably because its US only respondants and @jaddorio apparently didn't understand that the Internet is not a USA only thing (or he would have put that in the subject instead of assuming that everyone here was from the USA)

Seems pretty poorly thought out in my view and also pretty poor that the Admins allowed it.

so no wonder almost every question in the survey was some here in between mis-information and poorly premised assumptions based on mis-information. I'm apparently not the only member here who thought this, although he's much more diplomatic than me (I just call a spade a spade). Clearly the survey is designed to feed into a marketing angle, not establish facts or help people inform themselves.

In an academic context one would be expected to disclose your interests and conduct ones self ethically. Apparently this isn't the case here. So I'm just adding that background disclosure as a PSA of sorts.

I retried the survey, using a US IP address and entered my country as the US.

SAME RESULT.

Given what you have discovered (above, and thanks for sharing), my guess is they are scamming people into doing the survey, collecting the resulting information (I must have answered 20+question before being told I don't qualify), and then declining the $50 payment, but using that gathered information anyway.

ADMIN: Please remove it and ban the poster. It's BS.

It sounds like some qualified for and received payment. They are in the other thread. And they are long time reliable members here, so I’m inclined to believe them.

But it is definitely a marketing survey with an outcome in mind and not a scientific research survey attempting to learn something.

Unfortunately this will work like our benefits survey’s at work. “Based on employee feedback from our annual benefits survey, your new plan includes higher premiums, greater out of pocket costs, and fewer provider options. Thank you for taking the time to participate!”

Wait…. I don’t remember answering anything like that at all!
