So I asked an anti-vaxer at work if he was going to give in for the sake of the money but he said "No, I'm not selling my soul for a measely $200!". And when I tried to draw him into a serious discussion as to what his reasons were not to, it was the commonly heard misplaced concerns like "I've never had blood clots and I don't want any now either", "the vaccine does not even work, plenty of people have covid that got a vaccine", "the vaccine kills people", "I don't trust the government", and "it's all about the $$$, the gov't etc are all making tons of money on this & that is why they are pushing it".

I've tried to debate conspiracy theorists before. Using logic and statistics, you'd have a better chance at convincing a bag of rocks than someone who moves the goal line every time you present factual information.

And I would have to tilt towards the bag of rocks on the intelligence scale versus the conspiracy theorist. At least the bag of rocks is agnostic on the vaccine. They don’t promote it nor do they discourage it. On the other hand, the conspiracy theorist is typically spreading misinformation, which does great harm, and can lead to death and suffering amongst those who believe such nonsense.

Since when did taking action to protect the most vulnerable among us become selling one's soul?
My crackpot theory? It's like tugging on the thread of a sweater. Once you acknowledge that you have a responsibility to care for people who aren't like you, who are suffering from circumstances not under their control, so much of the rest of a particular political philosophy (and personal identity) starts to unravel.

Err, which one, this one?View attachment 888016

Cos I don't want them on my island (Australia), we've got enough problems.

That is clearly a doctored photo of the Earth, designed to make it appear round, no doubt put out there by NASA to convince all the Sheeple. Where are the ice walls on the edges? Photoshopped out of course! 🤣

"I am pissed with have to "incentivize" people to get vaxxed. To me the real incentive should be higher insurance premiums with possible caps on Covid coverage if you don't get vaxxed, without a valid verified medical exception. It is funny the amount of verification my wife had to go through to add me to her medical insurance, do the same for Covid vaccinations. And if they lie and are caught that should be fraud resulting in legal implications."

This is coming. Read an article today that insurance companies are working on setting this up as soon as full approval for the vaccine comes through.

Also today NYC requiring vaccine for entry into all restaurants, venues etc. I'm betting some other cities won't be far behind.

Careful what you wish for in terms of insurance premiums being dictated too much by choices or circumstances. We’re all in a high risk group and private insurance already has to be forced by law in some circumstances to cover existing conditions.

I don’t want them deciding my congenital defect shouldn’t be covered, or that if I were obese, would I want them deciding not to cover type-2 diabetes if they decide it’s obesity related? Many of us have already had the battle of them not wanting to cover home testing. We ran into a battle of a lack of supply on epi-pens last year and they wouldn’t cover brand (which are crazy expensive). “Sorry there’s no generic supply. Better pay up if you don’t want your child to die from cross-contamination!” Why do we have insurance?

Higher insurance premiums for the Covid-19 anti-vaxxers? It may become a reality and I hope it does. See article below.

I don't agree that it should be avoided as it could be a slippery slope. Insurance companies are allowed to charge smokers up to 50% more and this has not proven a slippery slope. Also, reckless drivers must pay more for auto insurance. It is only fair. Those who choose to follow misinformation and avoid the vaccine end up costing the rest of us thousands in increased premiums. It should be passed on to them.

" The Affordable Care Act allows insurers to charge smokers up to 50 percent more than what nonsmokers pay for some types of health plans. "

It will also help with getting compliance for the apathetic. A free lottery ticket will just not be enough incentive for some folks. But, pass on to them the true cost of their apathy, possibly a few thousand in extra premiums per year, and you will get those folks off the couch.

In hand to hand of course. However they are in decline because our species is killing them and destroying their habitat.
But not a good comparison IMO
Well yes I did think of the fact that we are destroying them but also their run will surely end up being longer than ours. I mean if the environment is fairly stable for long period of time once an animal is adapted to it very well like they were/are there's not a lot of need to change. Also one could think it's pretty stupid that we're destroying their environment because we're actually destroying our own in the process. Although I realize you can have intelligence and still do stupid things.
It's not like those finches consciously change the sizes and shapes of their beaks...

Agreed but unless an employer cracks down because of higher premiums many people , talking about the United States specifically, don't actually pay for their premiums their employer does so they won't really feel it directly

Country-wide, employers only pick up about 2/3rds of an employee's health care premiums, so some of the costs will trickle down. My guess is that the modern legal environment will mean that private insurance companies won't charge higher rates for non-vaxxers, they'll offer discounts for vaxxing, which is somehow completely different because reasons.

Medicare/Medicaid is going to be screwed though.

even if they go extinct right now, yes ...

a friend of mine did his PhD in the root causes of this, but I can not say anything about his dissertation because I've been told I can't mention relxxxon

Sounds properly mysterious. High-powered lawyers or mean looking guys in dark classes?

Yeah I guess that's true, I occasionally forget I'm in that minority where my employer pays the whole nut

administrators here have more power in this virtual world than either of those two.

I'm always aware of this point:

I remember that guy posting out here. I guess he got canceled?
yes, in an argument started by bikeWanker in my absence defending me. He got banned because he (being a genuine but unsophisticated guy) allowed bikeWanker to bait him up.

I think it worked out better for him (Julien) as he now just has gotten back to living life with his mech valve and ignores all the stuff here.

It is the way of things that the genuine people here are often sidelined by the voiciferous who offer no help actual but offer lots of hand-wringing and prayers.
