Just wandering what you’re using/doing if any of you owns one of the recalled machines!

Mine is among the recalled ones, yet my sleep doctor wants me to continue using it despite the fact that I always have been waking up with a headache and waking up grasping for air during the night! He changed my face mask (which is not helping)!

As for hubby, he asked him to discontinue using his machine since hubby had been using the “SoClean2” to disinfect it, which definitely made his machine more unhealthy to use!

I tried to buy a different machine, but THERE ARE NONE! They will take the order, but can’t promise you when to deliver Which I may do if there is no update from Phillips!

thank you.

My Respironics machine has not been recalled that I know of. Why was yours recalled? It might not have to do with the CPAP function but something else such as data recording.

You might want to try ordering one through a medical supply distributor. Sometimes distributors have better access to scarce products.

I change my mask every month and it helps me avoid leaks and keep it on. For my mask there are different seals, the best is the "gel cushion" which is what I use. My mask frame has a valve that needs to work. The instructions say that upon receipt make sure it works. I replace the mask frame with straps every 6 months and have never found a seal that doesn't work.

For me, allergies were a problem and I started using the HEPA filter which helped a lot. Using the humidifier at a medium setting helped too. You can get allergies as you get older, I did.

Philips sent me a notification in the mail that any cleaning product that uses ozone (O3) can cause damage and would void any warranty. Does the SoClean use ozone? If so, that'd be another reason not to use it. I wash my mask every day in lightly soapy water (Dawn), and clean the tube, reservoir, filter and straps every 2 weeks. This is less frequent than recommended I think, but its worked for many years. I don't use any brushes. I replace the tube every 2 months though.

Thanks to your counsel Eva, I got a CPAP and love it. I'm like Pavlov's dog, put on the mask and my subconscious knows its time and I go to sleep quickly. I can even sleep between 1-5 am when Delta stuck me into a hotel room due to overbooking. I could never do that even before the sleep apnea.

Thanks Eva, hope it works out for you.

Thank you, tom in MO.
The recall is due to causing: “Possible health risks include exposure to degraded sound abatement foam, for example caused by unapproved cleaning methods such as ozone, and exposure to chemical emissions from the foam material“. Sleep and respiratory care update | Philips

My husband used the “SoClean2” which uses ozone! this is why he cannot use his machine anymore. I used SoClean2 once, and I hated how my hose smelled!

I’ll try to order a machine through Aprea, our cpap supplier.

The gel cushion works best for me too! And I do change it monthly. When I told my doctor I wash my hose weekly, he said “monthly is enough”!!!
I had a PFT test in his office and he prescribed an inhaler for being out of breath!
I’m glad that CPAP is working for you.

We had an air purifier before, but I didn’t like it! Is the HEPA different? Do you keep it in the bedroom or ?

thanks again. Stay safe.

My CPAP has a standard foam filter. At a minimal additional cost, you can get a small white filter that fits between the foam filter and the machine. It's a HEPA filter only for you. I found the HEPA filter helped a lot with my allergies.

You can build a home air purifier with a cheap box fan. You tape a 3M Filtrete MPR1500 to a box fan. The filter needs to fit the box fan and you use duct tape to seal it. The fan blows into the filter. Turn it on in the room and it will give a >90% reduction in room particulates in 15 min at any fan setting. The fan doesn't need to blow on you. He did chamber testing to measure its efficacy. He invented it for his daughter's dorm room since she has bad allergies.

Thank you very much for your recommendation!
I just bought the small HEPA filter to attach to my machine!
spoke to APRIA for a long time today, but in vain. So, I ordered a Resmed machine (similar to my sister’s). we’ll see when to receive it.
blessings.

Just to shed a new light!
Last Thursday, I received a new CPAP machine (Resmed Airsense 10) I was able to find online! Wow!
I feel refreshed on wake up! No headaches! No suffocation nor coughing during sleep!

I‘m glad I didn’t listen to my sleep doctor’s unwise advice to continue using my “recalled” machine!
:)

Glad to hear you are back on track. How did you set it up, by yourself, the doctor or...?
