I don't take warfarin, but I have watched several other videos these guys have made and they are excellent. I usually have to watch them multiple times and look up terms, but it has been a really, really long time since I had a biology or chemistry class. I thought some here might be interested.
Join us for our Pharmacology lecture on Warfarin. During this lecture, Ninja Nerd Science will guide you through the mechanism of action, indications, adverse drug reactions, and contraindications involving warfarin.

sooooo i watched it again, he is a super smart guy

I know nothing about chemistry, so it may be a stupid question but would it not be
more simple to just promote the protein C ?

Interesting to note his view on Mech valve INR range

and lastly , What happens if a women wants a child and she has a mech valve ?

This guy was amazing - the entire time appeared to be impromptu (but no doubt very well planned).

The talk about bridging partially took me by surprise - he talked about a pro-coagulation effect when starting warfarin, and said that bridging was necessary to reverse these effects.

In my experience, if my INR is ever low (1.5 or so, for medical procedures), I just return to my usual dosage and in two or three days, my INR is back in range. I haven't worried about any procoagulant effects -- I'm wondering if this really matters, because I am ALREADY anticoagulated, and warfarin is already in my system.

I suspect that bridging probably most applies to people who aren't already partially anticoagulated by warfarin.

This guy IS amazing. He did the entire thing - nearly an hour - impromptu and didn't appear to use notes or a teleprompter through the entire presentation.

Lots of preparation -- and really knowing his stuff.

I recently saw one paper (I can't find it now) that claimed that warfarin can cause birth defects. I didn't check the sources, and don't know if it's been corroborated by other studies.

This DOES sound like a good reason for woman expecting to have children when they have AVR would choose a tissue valve.
