That is very interesting and a first time I have heard this. Thanks for sharing! I will have to ask my mom if there was oil and gas development near her when she was pregnant.

I read this, quickly considered my own circumstances, and rejected the possibility that it affected my BAV, my son’s BAV, or our grandson’s BAV. The study dealt with individuals in Colorado; I was born in Illinois, with no proximity to oil or gas refineries. Then the thought struck me that although I was born in southern IL, my mother and father lived in Colorado until shortly before my birth when they moved east. So maybe it is within the realm of possibility that there is a connection in my case. I am sure it wouldn’t apply to either our son or grandson, but one out of three is a significant percentage.

I guess that my interest in this was that environmental exposures can also cause or perhaps trigger a gene which would not have presented, but was recessive to present the same symptom which we know as BAV (and other connective tissue disorder).

I wasn't intending this to suggest that many / any of us here (necessarily) had our conditions caused by such things.

As one with a history in genetics I just find this sort of thing interesting and thought others may too.

Everytime I see a pivot irrigator I think of strands of DNA

As much as we think we know about genetics theres alot we don’t know.. anyone seen the movies Sharktopus or Black Sheep... 🤪

Very interesting. I was born in Houston, Texas. We lived about 5-10 minutes from Pasadena, which everyone here calls Stinkadena because of all of the refineries. 🤔

Leah, the human in your avatar looks like she's really clingy. You need to start thinking about cutting her loose.
Lol!!! She’s so annoying. She thinks I love her, but I secretly hate her. I poop on her every chance I get.

Leah - you had me worried. You were talking about Pasadena TEXAS. We've got a really nice Pasadena here in Southern California - I had to check your post to make sure that it WAS Texas.

FWIW - much of Los Angeles was built on oil. We have locations with wells that are still active, all over the place.

Beverly Hills High School has a poorly camouflaged well that is still pumping oil. The house that I grew up in was originally sitting on oil - in fact, I still get an oil royalty check for the property that I grew up in.

I don't think I was exposed to much crude oil where I grew up, but this may explain why I have an ear growing out of my forehead.

This WAS an interesting paper.

LOL!! Well, hopefully you can find an excellent plastic surgeon in Cali to remove your forehead ear. That's funny....my mom's best lives in Pasadena, CA too. So beautiful there. MUCH different than the Pasadena here!
