Well if that's true, what will a person who, like Mick Jagger, has TAVR, do when their TAVR valve fails ? If Jagger's valve fails in 10 to 15 years time he will be 85 or 90 and not such a good age for SAVR but he won't be able to have TAVR again.
I think they are working on TAVR in TAVR. I'll ask my cardiologist when he see him in a couple of weeks. They are also working on ways to extend the life of current valves.

Boy, this is a strict forum. I didn't know I would be graded on my posts.

It's not the forum as people always grade what you say in their own minds. Some have a lower tolerance for misinformation, some bother to speak up others ignore it

However, the way I posted a snippet and a url is the proper way to create a reference for a web posting
You may have not understood what happened, I didn't say your referencing style was an issue, just the lack of it.

@rich01 , @pellicle is like a head mistress minus the stockings and suspenders 🤪🤪

According to posted VR replies regarding Mick’s surgery, he either underwent TAVR, a repair, or a replacement. So much for definitive answers!
Just do a search about Mick Jagger and heart and you get loads of hits saying he had TAVR, here are just four:

None of the links states that Mick says that he underwent TAVR, and three of the four say he “reportedly underwent heart surgery”. The use of the word “reportedly” makes me think that they’re being very careful in their reporting. In the last link they quote Bloomberg’s opinion that Mick’s TAVR will be a boon to the medical device companies, but they don’t give their source of information. I think that TAVR is most likely but I’m not seeing 100% confirmation from news’ reports.

I don't know if you have Twitter so I don't know if you will be able to view this Tweet done by Mick Jagger, but if you can you will see him doing movements that no one could do only a month after conventional open heart surgery ! But could do a month after TAVR:

I had seen it, and yes, that’s why I thought it must be a TAVR! I’m a little surprised that they’re not publicizing the New York hospital where he had it done and the valve.

from the link I posted:
While there is no official word yet from Mick Jagger, there are reports that he had a TAVR performed at a New York hospital.
...
The fact that Jagger posted a picture on Twitter less than a week after aortic valve surgery, further suggests that Jagger had a TAVR. As you can see below, Mick posted, "A walk in the park!" on April 11, 2019.

but yes, certainly keeping their cards close to their chest ;-)

Maybe Jagger simply doesn’t want to give free advertising to the hospital, cardiac surgeon or valve manufacturer ?
My thought is that the medical community doesn’t want to explain why an obviously fit 75 year old qualified for TAVR while others are deemed unsuitable for the procedure. I have a friend who was 81 when it was discovered she needed avr for a stenotic valve. She was turned down for TAVR because she was fit and generally too healthy so had her valve replaced the old fashioned way - - open heart surgery. I’m sure Mick’s money smoothed the way for his TAVR.

It makes me angry that I can't get TAVR through Medicare. I know a person younger than I am, in good health, who was able to have TAVR through his insurance.

I printed off the new government regulations but haven't had a chance to read through them yet. I wonder who lobbied the government against approving TAVR for low risk patients? More TAVR should mean cheaper valves, lowering the overall cost.

I have heard TAVR’s either or now, will soon be or or at least being closely evaluated to being indicated for patients that are lower risk for open procedures. They want to go with open first as it is the gold standard and there are so many years of studies indicating the level of safety. TAVRs are so new that they only have less safety data. Not saying they’re less safe at all. As a matter of fact that recovery time is pretty amazing. They just don’t know the longevity of the valve itself. They can theorize, but they don’t have inpatient long-term data yet.

my view is that if you're a wealthy enough celebrity who does not want any disruption to a high earning career you can pretty much get what you want.
