Cool Weight loss Cooker! Yippee!

Cool Weight loss Cooker! Yippee!

My AVR was on 2/13/09 and very fortunately I had lost 50 lbs in the previous 5 months. My Gastro doc told me to quit drinking beer or I was going to do serious damage to my liver. I quit drinking and started eating better, walking and got down to 165 from 215. Little did I know I would need the AVR surgery as soon as I did but the weight loss really put me in much better shape to tolerate the surgery!
I've heard that fear doesn't motivate people when it comes to health issues. Well, it does motivate me. I know folks who have had two OHS and still smoke, eat that good old Southern fried cooking, and never exercise. How they live as long as they do is a mystery to me.
So, You are to be revered as one who obviously gets it!
BTW I lost 13 lbs during surgery to 152. I'm back up to 165 which is where I want to be.

Goodmorning all...

Tbone...wonderful result there, keep up the good work!

Terryj...keep going...even if you dont lose the healthy eating is doing you good and your heart will be happy!

Mary...glad to see you back ref'fing this cheeky mob!

OK...now for me?...
Well amazingly I have lost another pound...it seems my hips and waist have shrunk just a little as my pants need hauling up now!...LOL...this is excellent result as thats exactly whats been bothering me for 2+ years...:D

I know this should be in the ACT forum but I have a question. Does losing weight cause your IRN to rise? My diet is steady. You may remember that I plunged (INR) while sick and on antibiotics but when I went back to 5mg a day I was back to 2.5, two week later I tested 4.8 this morning?. As Al said one time INR stands for ?it?s never right? ?.

PS: 4.8 does not bother me a bit, I?ll just skip a dose tomorrow:D

For a 4.8 I would poosibly reduce tomorrows dose by half...check with Rossman, Karlynn or the guru Al in the ACT forum for further excellent advice.

Great Job Ton:D .... slow loss is good loss ... it means habits are changing and anyway .... A pound a week is 52 pounds in a year.... I have become acutely aware of how I need to change my eating habits.... not so much what I eat as how much and when and why....

Way to go Ton! The steady melt is the way to go.

Okay - I'm reading another motivational book called "Naturally Thin". It's not a diet book, it's a book about how you think about food. And Cooker - you touched upon a few of the "principles".
You can have it all - just not all at once.
and
Taste everything, eat nothing.
This one doesn't mean you never eat, it just means that when you are faced with several foods that you love, you have small tastes of what you love. If you taste something and it doesn't live up to your ideal, then don't eat it. It's a good principle for buffets or cocktail parties that have lots of finger food. (Or church potlucks!)

It also talks about stopping when you are not quite full. Because most people don't stop until after this point (me). It says to quit the Clean Plate Club (which was the way I was raised.)

I'm still trying to figure out why stopping sweats has caused me to start shedding the pounds. My DH said - well you must have been eating a lot of them. But I truly really wasn't. I haven't really changed anything about the way I eat other than I don't have a sweet snack once a day. So there was something about that sweet (or the refined sugar it contained) that was not good for me.

I wish I could say I wasn't craving sweets anymore, but I still do - just not as much. I'm past that manic stage. Yesterday I had 3 or 4 dried plums ;) and that really seemed to stop the craving.

Has anyone else figured out what triggers their weight to hang on?

Dried plums have lots a sugar and will help with the cravings ... also dried plum juice will help.... when my weight hangs on it is usually a combo of salt and sugar.....

I was down a pound again today, so the sugar in the dried plums doesn't seem to impact as much as refined sugar. I have a few and I'm not tempted to eat the whole bag (unlike a pan of brownies). They also help lighten the load. ;)

Eat a whole bag of dried plums and you will be sleeping in the bathtub:D:p

I think this is out of her jurisdiction ?. And if she does I will execute executive veto power:cool:

Nothing is out of my jurisdiction.:cool:You might veto, but I wager I can find 2/3 majority to override!;)

I didnt know dried plums and prunes were "different" /:confused:...please explain?...

Now the sugar craving...
On the biggest loser (Aussie) the other night someone in the group gave into temptation and devoured the yummy sweet treats and the trainer went mad because somehow (sorry-she didnt explain how and she should have) anyway somehow it sends your metabolism off course and it stops burning the calories the way you want it to. I am not sure if she was talking about Ketosis but I have a feeling she may have been. I am thinking thats how they get these peoples to lose enormous ammounts of weight on 1200cals a day and do all that exercise too......

I have been limiting my carbs to around 50% of my intake and also drinking a heap of water...lots more than usual...that seems to keep any cravings away...sugarfree gum is my next defence if that does not work.

Dried plums .... natures candy .... good for you.... have a few .... your Colon will thank you:D

Of course dried plums and prunes are different. :D ;) The rules are quite clear - Prunes and Prune juice are banned substances.

Hello all. It looks like many of the usual suspects are still plugging away--good for all of you! I confess, I told Cooker I'd check in last Friday and then I forgot...perhaps a bit of a Freudian slip.

Anyway, I've managed to keep off almost all that I lost last year, but it's been hard lately and I have crept up a bit...so, I guess I'll designate last Friday's weight as my new starting point.

Current weight: 146.5
Goal: 138-142 (I'd like to hit 138 and hover so that, essentially, I can claim a steady weight of 140.)

Can I interest anyone in a virtual walking club? My two walking buddies are no longer available and I'm just not getting it done without them for motivation. Is anyone willing to check in here at...say...7:30am ET (this can flex) ready to walk? It's not quite having someone waiting outside, but I think it'd work for me.
