Nice to see this

Nice to see this

Your Dad looks happier than a piggie in the mud. It seems looks like he is so pleased to see this behind him that he wants to spread his joy for all.

Hope he has a swift and uneventful recovery....he's already way ahead.

Good morning!

No new pictures this morning, but I'm sure there will be more later today.

Dad had a good night. Once he got comfortable enough to fall asleep, he got some good sleep. He's already been up, washed, shaved, brushed his teeth, and had breakfast this morning. He is waiting for his next pain medication to come because he wants to go walking again.

The doctor said that Dad is doing great. His chart looks wonderful. She said she would send him home today if they didn't have to monitor the coumadin for the next couple of days. She is expecting to take the rest of tubes out today.

Dad's looking a little worn out this morning; probably a combination of things. He is most likely exhausted, and they are stepping him down off the pain meds. They are trying to get him on the med schedule that he'll keep once he goes home. I'm sure the effects of the general anesthetic are nearing their end as well. He seems to be in a little more pain, but he's handling it like a champ. His spirits are still pretty high.

Have a wonderful day!

Great pics. Sorry your dad is having some pain but glad he as done so well. Wishing him a continude bump free recovery.

Thanks for the update, Courtney. Your dad is very lucky to have you there to support him. My daughter is 5 and I'll be lucky if she doesn't karate chop me in the chest after my surgery. :)

His discomfort and exhaustion are normal and all part of the recovery process. I really admire his attitude and hope to have the same strength and courage post-op. Send him my best wishes!

Wishing your Dad a continued smooth recovery. Thank you so much for updating us!

PS - He looks good. His color looks good and his eye nice and clear.

DARN KIDS! Gotta teach you everything don't I? Tbone is now a professional picture poster. He'll give you the proper lessons. :D

Your dad looks great! Those pics sure bring back the memories. ;)
Praying he continues to have a smooth recovery. Look forward to hearing more on has journey.

Snoopy's tubes and wires are gone!

Snoopy's tubes and wires are gone!

At 1:30 this afternoon, all tubes and wires were removed! The oxygen was gone first thing this morning. The scar is looking great; seems to be healing nicely! Get that coumadin adjusted and he will be heading home! He is amazing!

Courtney,

Thank you for posting the pix and giving us updates on your Dad! Your pix and info is very encouraging to me! I will be having mitral valve-related surgery at the Sentara Heart Hosp. in Norfolk on 02 April (Dr. Fleischer). Where was your Dad's surgery performed?

Thank you!

DoBee

The last INR was 1.04.

They aren't being aggressive enough. That is a same INR that a person not on Coumadin would have. How long ago did they start him on it and what dose are they giving him daily?

I just don't want him thinking, or you for that matter, that Coumadin is hard to manage. It's not. It's just that these darn pro's don't get it.

Good Evening everyone!

There are some new pictures up again. As mom mentioned earlier, all the tubes have been removed. He is looking much better this evening than he looked this morning; he seems to be more alert and in less pain (not that he has had really bad pain yet).

He is currently up taking his second walk of the day. He's doing one whole lap around the hospital wing that we are in.

He's definitely feeling better...starting to get picky about the food on his plate! He didn't care for dinner. That's the first time he's been picky...probably a good sign.

He just passed the door and has started his second lap around the wing! I wasn't expecting that. I waved as he went by...should have gotten a picture of that! Oh well, I wasn't thinking.

They took the dressings off of his incision today. I posted a couple of pictures of it. It doesn't look bad at all.

Dobee,

Just saw your post after I posted my latest about pictures. He is actually here at SHH as well. Dr. Baker did his surgery. The staff here is excellent. As you can tell, we have been able to hang out the whole time. Couple of tips that were told to us that I'll pass along are 1) Become a friend to the OR nurse on the morning of the surgery. If anyone is going to update your family during the surgery, it will be her. Ask her if she will call them a couple of hours into the surgery to give them an update. 2) If you want your family to take pictures of you (dad wanted pictures at all stages, of everything), sign a piece of paper giving someone in your family permission to take pictures while you're out. We had to be sneaky about it because we didn't think to do that.

Hope all goes well! We will keep you in our prayers.
