I don't wear a bracelet since I'm pre-op and the pretty ones are expensive.
However, I did do the ICE (In case of Emergency) entry in my cell phone with a twist.
I have 3 ICE contacts (ICE1, ICE2, ICE) in there.
I also created an "ICE Medical History" entry.
I also created an "ICE Medications" entry.
Since all the entries start with ICE, when the paramedics/docs type in ICE they get them all grouped together, so they will see that there is complete info.
I have a blackberry, so it allows me plenty of space to enter the info in the text type fields (address, etc.)
Hope you find that helpful.

My DH has that on a toque, of all things !

Duff, you can also buy the standard medic alert bracelet and have the metal ID emblem part inserted into another bracelet or strap of your choosing. I'm thinking about having a second one with my own choice of beads. I have lots of beading supplies.

I like this idea, Bina,

Do your own bead bracelets with colors to match favorite clothes!!

For people not familiar with ICE- here's the wiki info.

Bina, Couldn't you make straps with lobster clasps on both ends to hook onto the emblem then you cuould make a couple and switch them out depending on what you feel like wearing?

I have tons of beading supplies too , for one of Justin's surgeries he taught himself macreme (sp?) so he had something to do when he was sitting around alot. Since the macreme supplies were right next to the beads, I picked up a new hobby, but like most of my hobbies I bought alot of things,(it is TOO easy throwing pretty beads, findings in your cart on some of the online catalogs,) then got bored quickly. I do drag everything out once in a while.

I got my medic alert bracelet right after surgery, but got a nice medic alert gold watch for christmas from my hubby, when talking to a paramedic he just plain told me this is very nice and fancy, but we don't look at the watches we only look for a bracelet, necklet or anklet on a patient, what an ***, there's a bright red symbol of medic alert in the middle of my watch you can't miss it. Now he got me all paranoid of wearing my watch.

Lyn, it was postop that I also got started in beading.....and needlepoint.....and sudoku.....and whatever else I could do to keep from totally losing my mind.;)

Lise, I like the watches too, but I knew that I wouldn't keep it on 24/7

ICE.....I have family phone numbers on my cell phone, but there's another object that is not attached to me 24/7

Maybe it's time to make some more bracelets.....hmmmmm.

Well my gold bracelet of 16 years wore a hole right
through the clasp that holds it from both ends together.
could almost see through it,now i can actually see through it.
Lasted a long time, hope my new updated one comes soon
the old one faded so much also.

I was thinking if only we could tatoo all our info somewhere
the medic's would see it,that be great, just tatoo an update
when needed, would be neat with a picture of the heart or
a zipper:D
Just a thought ,now that i have no bracelet.

Deb, I have had my gold bracelet for over two years and the lettering has worn off on the one side. What the HECK!! Seems cheap to me, and I got it from Medical I.D. on line, paid pretty good money for it was at least $80+. So I just keep wearing it. Don't think I could do the tatoo but maybe a chip! ;) Just a thought. :)

It,s been about 45 yrs. for me. Do you think I should bother ordering one now? I know, I know I'm just a stubborn Irishman.

I noticed that the engraving had faded away on my 10K gold-filled bracelet after only 14 or 15 months. They are warranted for 1 year....wouldn't you know! I also paid about $80 for mine. I certainly would not order a 14K gold one to the tune of $500 - $700 knowing how much the engraving fades!

I am still wearing my bracelet for all the good it does. But I am thinking to order another one because they are on sale for $10 off right now. Then I will send it back at 364 days when it starts fading and get it replaced.
