Just saying hi to everyone from the hospital tonight. I had my AVR last Tuesday and should be going home tomorrow. I will write more when I feel better but I will say it was A LOT harder then I thought it would be. More pain, more just feeling bad, it is not something I would like to do again. I do have PPS "post-pericardiotomy syndrome" and being treated with meds. The doctors and nurses have been great here at Alexian Bros hospital!
God bless,
Randy

Be good to yourself. Your only work for the next few weeks is to walk, sleep, eat and breathe. Take your incentive spirometer home with you and continue to use it. Welcome to the other side of the mountain.

Wecome back. Glad to hear you are doing better. Take it easy for now, don't overdo it.

Remember to be good to yourself, don't be silly and over due things.
Sorry for my ignorance Randy, but could explain what post-pericardiotomy syndrome is?

Thank you everyone!
PPS can happen from 2-30% of patients undergoing surgery that involves opening of the pericardium. It involves the inflammation of the pericardium. That's what they tell me anyways! It gives you flu like symptoms, just feeling yucky.

Randy,
Good to hear that you are heading home. Eat, sleep, rest, and walk, everyday will only get better.

I'm happy to hear from you. Sorry you have pericardial problems, thankfully they are getting much better at taking care of them with meds when caught early. I'm glad you have good nurses and docs, it can make alot of difference. thanks for updating, I was wonderring how you were doing.

Being home will do wonders for you

You've had a hard time. Please remember things get better every day. The best is yet to be.

Thanks everyone!
I am still waiting to see if they will let me go home today. My INR numbers are still low but I am waiting on my cardio to give the OK. I am feeling much better and want to go home, plus it is in the 60's today, would love to take a short walk outside!!!!! At least I have my laptop :D

Don't be surprised if you have trouble with your INR. Come down to the anticoag forum and we'll help you out. The largest single problem is, the pros don't know how to manage the drug properly. They'd rather subject you to stroking because they fear bleeding. You can replace blood cells, you cannot replace brain cells.

I will be watching, I need all the brain cells I have left! I will check out the anticoag forum to learn more.

Glad to read your on our mountain side, wishing you a smooth
recovery and hope you can get home soon where rest is best.
