Thanks to everyone for their good wishes--must have helped since I'm alive and kicking and finally found my way to a computer! After BAVR surgery on Tuesday, February 24, I spent 6 nights in the Cardiac Critical Care Unit and moved on to the step-down unit the following Monday. Two days later I was discharged to an acute rehab center for intensive physical therapy. After another round of evaluations, I'm ready to begin my PT tomorrow and looking forward to getting home very soon since I'm now picking up decided speed on this course. I'll keep up posted on my progress (easier since I'll be getting my
own laptop tonight!):D

Sending out best wishes to Mike85 on your surgery scheduled for Monday, March 9. We can compare notes later. It's much better on this side of the mountain!

Jane it is so good to hear from you. Your son was great about updates, but nice to hear how well you are doing from you. I know you had lots of concerns about getting up ect after surgery so I'm thrilled for you with your progress.

This is exactly what I wanted to say! You sound great, Jane!

Jane!
So good to hear you're coming along. your son was indeed fantastic about communicating. I hope you can now start healing by leaps and bounds!
BTW, I talked to Mike yesterday and he seems pretty confident. I hope all goes well for him too.
Congratulations!
You did great!

My rehab after BAVR

My rehab after BAVR

Hi Jennifer,

I'm doing things a little out of order since I have some physical issues that have to be addressed before I can get home to recurperate. I had polio as a child and must use my arms and chest wall for things like sitting and standing
--exactly what you're not supposed to do after OHS. I normally walk with crutches and therefore have to relearn how to walk in a way that limits stress on my chest wall, and also work on my balance--again, my surgeon does not want me to fall and I'm doing OT as well as PT to lessen the chances of having that happen.

My sternum has been wired and rewired and I should now be able to set airport alarms all over the country! The best hope is to get me to a completely healed sturnum without any problems along the way. Once I reach that goal, I should be on an even par with everyone else. In the meantime I'll keep you all posted on my progress and hopefully pave the way for the next VR patient with physical challenges. This grounp has certainly made my path a lot easier and I am most appreciative of all the advice and help.

Jane ;)
