Hi everyone,

Well, your two steps forward, one back seems to be true. Yesterday I didn't think I'd be home until Thursday at the earliest and this morning the surgeon comes in and asks if I was ready to go home? I'm was a bit nervous, especially after my episode yesterday but after last night in the ward I wasn't about to say no. It feels good to be home although I can't figure out how to bend my bed into those wonderful hospital bed positions but at least there will be none of those hospital distractions.

I'm pretty tired, it has been an exhausting day already. When I get enough gumption I'll go through and check up on all of my friends that had surgery last week. I hope every thing is going well for every one.

Thanks for all your support. My wife thanks you too.

Ian

Well, welcome home Ian! :) I know that now that you are home, you will start to feel much, much better. Just try to rest, eat & sleep when you feel like it. Don't try to take on too much too soon; your body will heal but you have to be patient & give yourself some time.

Take care of yourself! :)

Ian glad to hear your home.Hope you continue to improve daily.I'm three weeks out again, March11th.At least I know how to get out of surgery now.Complain of a bad tooth or relapse in my smoking.Just kidding keep us posted on your progress!!!

It's great to be home Ian.I was too cheap to get a wedge pillow but after 2 nights I was begging for one it makes a big difference. I put my regular pillow on top of it and I am comfy. I also have a pillow under my knees and my heart pillow on my chest when I'm on my side. The wedge pillow was $30 at BedBath&Beyond.

Welcome home, Ian.
Don't forget to walk, use your incentive spirometer (if you brought it home from the hospital), and take plenty of naps.

Welcome home. Take good care of yourself. Your only jobs for the next few weeks are to walk, sleep, eat and breathe. If you brought your incentive spirometer home with you - use it several times a day.

Ian, welcome home.
When I came home my husband put the couch pillows between our box spring and mattress so the head of the bed was bent up like the hospital bed. I kept it like this for the first couple weeks.

Welcome home brother. Listen to the advice the others have given, and give yourself time to heal. All the best, Brian

Thanks for all the advice. It is good to be home but a little scary too. I'm getting pains that I don't remember at the hospital and no nurses to flirt with. (My wife has heard all my lines, although I'm sure the nurses have too).
I find my bed too soft to move around much, hard to get a good push without arm action, damn pillow tops. Luckily we have a guest bed that is better. We do have a wedge pillow too. My favourite spot seems to be the lazyboy though. Last night about 3:00 am I left the bed and came out here. I seem to need about three different setups to stay comfy. The bed for times on my side, the wedge for on my back and my chair for everything else. I'm sure that will come with healing though.

After nearly 8 days in the hospital my hubby was so ready to be home. But, I remember how nervous we both were not having a call button for a nurse. He slept much better in a recliner than in our bed. I slept on the sofa beside him in case he needed me. Glad you are home and it will get better everyday.

Welcome Home Ian.:D:D
If I remember, when I first got home I would rotate myself between the recliner and my bed with wedge pillow at night. Usually 2 hours was tops for me. During the day, I would sit in the recliner, either with me legs out only or fully reclined. Once my back was tired, it was time to get up and walk outside from the front door to the end of the drive and as I got better to the end of the block, etc. So take it easy, it might take a while but you will get there. Give my best to Rose. :)
