Wade, when the guy mentions "thinners" does he in fact mean warfarin or something else like Plavix or Aspirin?
Skipping warfarin the day before a tatt would not be a very smart thing to do!! :(
Just my opinion.

My wife told him I would probably be on warfarin.
I don't know that he would know what types of thinners or what people were taking them for off hand.
He just said it wasn't uncommon to tattoo people who take blood thinners.

Let's see if I got this right.

It's a heart that my wife actually signed. The stitches are a story. The artist put 2 on then he changed his mind. he story is I had already had 2 surgeries. We found out a few weeks later my 3rd surgery was coming. What a premonition.

I've always wanted a small tattoo on my ankle, but my cardio burst my bubble when he said I'd have a higher risk of developing endocarditis from the procedure. Still tells me it's not a good idea and in a way, he guilt-trips me almost with, "Well, if you really want one, you're going to have to take a #$%load of antibiotics, and you might still end up with endocarditis anyway..." I just think it's 'cause he thinks tats are "unladylike."

Anyone here had to take antibiotics before getting a tat?

Well, Drs. are scared of liability, so they are bound to tell you all the possible horrors of everyday life. If he was like "Sure ,no problem." and you had a complication, you could potentially be a big lawsuit coming down on him.

I think it's like anything. If you're a motorcycle racer or love to play competitive basketball... you're gonna to have increased risks after surgery. But if that's a part of your life, it's probably worth the risk to you.

But if it's not a part of you already, then maybe now is not the time to start those Krav Maga classes, or chainsaw juggling lessons. ;)

For me, I've been getting tattooed for 17 years. I know where to go and how to heal. I also know my tolerence to pain, infection and sickness in general. I can tell if a needle is dull or barbed and tearing me up worse than it should be or if someone is drilling to deep.

Probably more worth the risk for someone like me than someone who hasn't caught the ink bug yet.
