Well, It is about one o'clock and I should be in happy snooze land but instead here I am on the computer. I have contracted a cold from my fam and have not been feeling well the last couple of days. Not real bad but a little off. I went to bed very early tonight. Around 8:30 I think. I woke up a little while ago and I noticed that I had a single pronounced click that was louder than the others every so often. It made me uneasy and now I can't go back to sleep.

I have all but quit working out for a few weeks now. I run/walk outside but the weather has had a bad stretch. I usually notice that my heart rate is lower when I have been working out and add to that not feeling well. To say the least it scares me a little. I am getting to the point that I don't hear or think about my valve much. I am feeling great and things are getting back to normal. The single click isn't just more prominent. I don't like it. click click click CLICK click click. like that. It obviously makes me a little uneasy. What should I do? By not feeling well I mean - head cold, stuffy sinus, etc.

I didn't mention that we have put an offer on a house and are waiting to hear back from the realtor. I am a big ball of stress right now, to say the least!!

Seth, if you're the least bit worried about it, go see a doctor! It's probably nothing, but there is no point waiting, just in case. Tell him about the cold and the stress, too, as well as not working out as much as usual. He may tweak your meds, if you're on any, of just re-assure you if there is nothing wrong.

Of course, I hope there is nothing wrong, and best wishes for both the doc visit and the house. We heard last night that the offer on our house firmed up, so now we get to go shopping for a new one - exciting and scary - so I know whare you are coming from.

Body acoustics play a big part in what we hear or feel with our valves .... I would think that when you have a cold the these acoustics can change ... sometimes I hear mine, sometimes I don't .....

Affects

Affects

Thanks for the reply. It is the first time I have ever noticed it and hope it will go away as I start feeling better. I will keep my eye on it for a little while. It just startled me because I was laying on my chest and could hear it in my pillow quite well. I am going to cut out some caffeine and do some walking for excercise. Thanks for the responses.

Being ill is likely the cause. You may be having some super beat that slams the flaps a bit harder and that's what your hearing. If I sit a certain way at this computer while typing, I can do the same thing.

If you are not feeling better within a couple of days, fo get something for your cold. I know most of us can not take much over the counter medicine. Not worth suffering. Hope you feel better.

Superbeat!

Superbeat!

That pretty much sums it up. It is just one beat every so often that is harder than the rest. I hate to be petty but it made me a little nervous. So what is a super-beat and what causes them?

There really isn't any specfic cause. For me, it depends on how I'm sitting. If for some reason I end up putting more pressure on my ascending aorta from a slouched over position, I'll get what I term a super beat and the leaflets slam loudly making it nice and audible to me.
