hi guys, greetings from india. haven't logged in as too busy with tests and
then with surgury. got here tuesday after only one flight cancellation. did all
the tests, heart catheter was painless, and had surgury on saturday. spent
one day in icu, two days in step down ccu, moved into my room again last
night. haha, foley removal was a breeze. all going well, with no real pain to
speak of, although removing the chest tubes was uncomfortable.

won't write too much now, just give you the basics, more later. turns out the
chinese echos i had were crap. showed large vegetation, eva of 2.0 and peak
grad of 85. turns out i had little to no veg, but the valve was almost completely
calcified. fell apart in the docs hands. i asked him to save it, i wanted to make
a paperweight, but he just has silvery flat disky clumps, looks like fish scales.
the peak gradient was critical, and eva was 0.6 sq.cm.!! that's less than a
drinking straw....and i went jogging last week, felt okay.

anyway, put in the new meat valve, aortic opening very small, 21mm was the correct
size, but he managed to get a 23 to fit. echos show no leaks, so things are looking
positive. feeling antsy, want to get out and go jogging, but they're trying to
limit my walking. ha. should start slowly climbing stairs tomorrow.

very bored, i've got 92 channels of bollywood musicals on the tube, and a couple
local papers, so i'll be walkiing around to all the nurses stations making a nuisance
of myself.

take care all, and hows zippydeb? she was scheduled for the day before me but
i haven't had time to scan every posting. just with her all the best for her recovery.

looks like the total bill for the hospital will be around $10k, add in $1k for the flight,
$2k for two weeks on the beach, plus some incidentals like taxis and trains and
visa runs, total will be under US$15K. makes me glad i don't waste money on insurance.

only down side so far? when they changed dressings yesterday, what i could see
of the scar was barely visible. i'm afraid once the hair grows back, it won't be
noticiable at all. so how else can i impress the chinese girls (short of dropping trou?)
[i like it when they say "i only want half"]

and hair? the guy with a "housekeeping" jacket showed up, pulled a lectric razor
out of his bag and proceeded to shave me completely from adams apple to
toe knuckles. except for mr. happy and the twins, who go the straight razor
treatment. it tickled, and i was so worried i'd get, um, aroused? would be toooooo
embarassing. anyway, the sisters are enjoying sponge bathing the hairless chihuauhua.
ruff!!!

well, good luck deb. if they cancel you again, i'm sure we can fit you in here.
that's if you don't mind recovery on the beach, sunny and 90 degrees.

Now, isn't that special???

Now, isn't that special???

Well, you answered my questions and concerns!

When you complain about the programs on the television, we have to know that you are doing well...very well.

I think we all knew that your positive and cheerful attitude would put you in good standing for a great surgery and recovery.

Please keep smiling and keep working hard on your recover.

Regards,
Blanche

It is so great to hear from you and glad to see your sense of humour is going strong. I can imagine you must be driving the staff nuts. (no pun) enjoy the beach, before you know it you will be using your lovely squattie chair.

Chou really, the cost (WOW) for that you shouldn't scar and your likely gone now to rest ,when your up and about much better i'd be abliged to see
your scar before it fades, they sound like they are great at this:)maybe i
should concider surgery there ,are the Doc's as hansome as here but not as
stupid to break a leg by sounds of it.I may reconcider.
Wow sounds like it all went great for you, don't wanna burden you with the pic

The cost is (WOW) in my eyes, thank gosh you don't waste money on insurance. Taker easy have a good rest tonight or today, whatever time you have there, great to see your posts....again be nice to nurses.

Glad everything went so well, wishing you a continude good recovery. All the best.

It's good to read that AVR turned out like you hoped and planned for.
I've got the same Edward's bovine but did receive the 21. I'm glad they were able to fit you with the 23, sometimes I think the post-op issues I've had are related to the valve size.
Enjoy the beach!:)

all of your life must be an adventure. You make it all sound fun. I bet you are a writer or reporter!

Congratulations on your successful surgery. Now that it's behind you, enjoy your stay on the beach and keep us up to date with your next chapter.

blessins.............

So happy it all went so well for you. We all fully expected that with your tremendous attitude. Can't wait to hear about your time on the beach recovering. No matter how well you are feeling, please do remember you've had very serious stuff done and give yourself enough 'heal time' before trying those long jogs etc

Keep feeling good and we look forward to updates as you are able.

Well Done! SO happy you are done with the surgery and into your recovery.

Hey, I was beginning to wonder about you! I was almost about to call a friend who is visiting his family in Chennai to call Apollo to enquire about the American who came from China : ) His mom is having angioplasty at Apollo this week.

Wow! You make it all sound so easy! So glad everything turned out ok. Looks like you are well on your way to recovery already. Anybody who has the courage to run 2 miles in 14.55 secs the week before OHS would do fine, that courage and sense of humor comes in handy in these times : ) Congratulations!

Enjoy the beach vacation and don't get into too much trouble with the nurses ; )
