Ross, I fully agree. Lower your INR to the lower end of your range and go for it. I had about a 3 inch long bony shelf (tori) removed from my mouth on my lower jaw several months ago and I didn't come off coumadin at all. My oral surgeon said there was no bleeding "emergency " in a mouth that he wasn't fully equipped to handle. I know how frustrated you must be!

Yes I just tested to see where I am in case it's a go for Thursday. 3.7 at the moment, but I have spinich for supper tonight and I'm cutting the doses in half over the next two days and we'll see.

Good luck Ross - I hope it's a goer for Thursday.

Just curious as to why you have to wait for 6 months before you get the dentures?
A guy I know had his teeth all pulled and got the dentures almost immediately. Mind you he only had about 6 teeth left in his mouth before they pulled them.
Is it something to do with your gums - waiting for the swelling to go down, healing etc?

Toothless for 6 months....golly gosh Rossman...Chicken soup is my favourite but I don't know about 6 months worth of it. I was dying to bite into something crunchy after a few weeks. We are going to have to start up a new thread of yummy ideas for food to enjoy while toothless.

Ice cream and chocolate dont need teeth!

Some people have told me that they were surprised at what they could eat without teeth.I don't expect to have trouble with, but my shrimps and such will be a chore.
Thats a great visual:D

And for the record I agree with everyone else; the danger of bleeding
is minimal in comparison to the more serious danger of an emblosim.
If you do have bleeding,it can be controlled if it does become a problem.
Dina:)

Well I've needed to lose weight for quite a while now. I think this just may be the ticket. I still shudder at the word "Baby food".

Well yes, but it's not figure friendly.

I hope this doesn't turn into another 60 day meeting with the ventilator. If it does, would someone here please come and shoot me? I can't take anymore 60 day meetings with that thing anymore.

Man this just gets more and more aggravating.

Dental Clinic just called and wants me to go for pretesting at 8 am. Surgery is scheduled for Thursday at 10am. I asked what I'm supposed to do about Coumadin? Am I going fully anticoagulated or what? The Doc says no, there going to stop Coumadin and start you on Lovenox. I told them they need to really get with the program. Here I sit at 3.5 today, still haven't been told to stop and surgery in 2 more days. Boy i can't wait until my cardiologist reams their butts. He sent the stuff to them last Thursday and they've had all this time to contact me and let me know.

I know right now I'm going to have problem getting Lovenox. The pharmacy doesn't just stock the stuff and it'll have to be ordered.

Oh god be with me, I'm amongst the clueless again.

I just got off the phone with the doc in charge of the teeth removal. She said to start lovenox with the coumadin. I know better then that. 'she said she needs my INR to be less then 4.0. I said if that's the case, I don't need to stop Coumadin. Oh yes you do, your going to be on lovenox and coumadin but stop taking your aspirin?????????

I told her look, it's going to take 2 or 3 days before I'm down to 1.0 which I'll be lucky if I make it by Thursday. She does not get it at all. No amount of information is getting through her head no matter from who.

Have you thought of just decreasing your coumadin and to use the Lovenox
if you go below your target. I mean if they will do the extraction at < 4.0,
then can't you (and your cardio) worry about getting you there.
Just a thought:)

This is the thing, she said I have to be less then 4.0 for surgery. If that is so, why am I stopping Coumadin? I told her that my everyday range is 2.5 to 3.5 and that I'm 3.5 right now, but she does not get it. Then she tells me to continue to take my coumadin and start the lovenox (OH HELL NO!) but stop the aspirin.

I just called my PCP back and asked what the hell I'm doing because that Doctor hasn't got a clue how Coumadin works nor anticoagulation in general and they flipped out because they've been waiting over an hour for a fax from them to get this processed. I got put in the middle of their phone tag game and I ain't playing it. I called that ding bat doctors pager, she called back and I laid it all out to her and then called the PCP and told them that if they didn't get the fax in the next 20 minutes to call her pager. Screw this, I have better things to do then wait for these morons.

To top it all off, I faxed that article on Dental surgery and Coumadin to their office saturday. Apparently no one read it. Bottom line is, there is no reason for me to be off Coumadin for this. None. I don't have the luxury of searching out another doctor to do this either.

Yes I'm searching out pureed food recipes. Some people have told me that they were surprised at what they could eat without teeth. Hope I find it the same. It'll about kill me. I'm a steak, pizza, seafood man. Fish I don't expect to have trouble with, but my shrimps and such will be a chore.

If you like chow mein, do not, I repeat, DO NOT, think you can blenderize chow mein and it will be just as tasty as normal.
Blecht! It's pure crap!
Been there, done that.

Why don't you lie to her and say that you've stopped the coumadin?
I'd be more concerned about the aspirin. I've been told it takes a week to get out of your system. That's more likely to contribute to any bleeding issues than anything else.

She's wants PT's everyday until surgery. It's ridiculous. I'm 3.5 now, tomorrow most likely around 2.6 Wednesday just maybe below 2.0.

I ,was thinking this too Mary, just didn't have the brass to say it:)

What really pisses me off to no end is knowing what I need to do but cannot get these people to realize that I DO KNOW what I need to do.
