This is a small section of an e-mail I received from an ex-collegue over the weekend.

Then, the week before I was due back Chris went and had another fit. I managed to record it using his reveal implant and the consultants were able to to deduce that his heart stopped for 37 seconds. So, after a week and a half in the LGI he now has a pacemaker.

hey,

this sounds like a possibility for me too, right now everything is on hold, no news back yet from the 30 day monitor, having intermittent issues, possible/probable SVT, if I keep having "spells" that I cant nail down I will suggest something like this, I thought my HR was gonna fly off the handle today by the way I was feeling, and I was in no situation to be able to deal with it, we intubated a patient today and shipped them down the road, and I had a severe asthmatic as one of my patients, and a patient on comfort care, I had no room for error, no room to have to stop and say "oh, I cant assist you in this intubation, I have to go now, my heart is booking in the 180s"

not exactly feasible, but you gotta get the rhythm on tape before you can treat it!

thanks!

Reveal implantable monitor

Reveal implantable monitor

I had a couple of episodes of syncope which were not diagnosed. The doctors decided I should have the implanted monitor, which I did not want. I wanted to be "normal" and not have any more heart problems.
Fortunately they talked me into the monitor. For 14 months I was fine and then one morning I passed out again. 911 to the hospital, one day in progressive cardiac unit showed nothing. No one asked the monitor what it saw.
I went to the hospital for my follow up 2 weeks later and it showed that my heart had stopped for 20 seconds. 2 days later I was admitted for a pacemaker implant. I am now very grateful to the Reveal monitor for diagnosing my problem so the doctor could treat it. Highly recommend this to anyone with syncope or arrythmia.
