July 4th has two meanings to me. Freedom..........

then there is my sister's birthday on July 4th. She was a freedom baby and took it seriously as soon as she knew what it meant. She was so active in working for our country and went far in her policital and civic career. I miss her every day, but esp now.

So, let's all be thankful for our freedom and the luck to be in the USA. We could be in some other country and not free at all. I thank those who helped us achieve this blessed freedom and keep it - including my sister. Bless you, Jackie. And all those others.

Happy July 4th to my American neighbours.

I'm actually going to Windsor for the weekend and will probably watch the fireworks from the Canadian side of the Detroit river.

For me, the 4th of July is really about the Veterans...

For me, the 4th of July is really about the Veterans...

and the soldiers that are now fighting this horrible war in Iraq....You would be amazed how many people in my area think of the 4th of July as just another excuse to have a day off from work. I think that these people really need to remember those who have kept us free and independent and those who are now fighting to keep our country safe. There....I will dethrone myself from my soapbox:)D) and wish everyone a very Happy and Safe 4th of July:D:D:D Harrybaby:D:D:D

To me, July Fourth is the birthday of our nation. I believed as a boy, and believe even more today, that it is the birthday of the greatest nation on earth.

We do know for certain that 56 men, a little band so unique we have never seen their like since, had pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to our beloved Declaration of Independence. Some gave their lives in the war that followed, most gave their fortunes, and all preserved their sacred honor. Thomas Nelson Jr, was actually a family member of mine. He would be my great-great-great-great uncle of mine. He personally urged George Washington to fire on his own home (The Nelson Home) and destroy it when it became the headquarters for General Cornwallis. He died bankrupt, as did many of the men who staked their lives to give us the freedom we enjoy today.

Let us always remember those who have gone before us in this great nation. And let us remember as President Ronald Regan once said, Let the Fourth of July always be a reminder that here in this land, for the first time, it was decided that man is born with certain God-given rights; that government is only a convenience created and managed by the people, with no powers of its own except those voluntarily granted to it by the people.

God Bless The United States of America!

The Declaration of Independence (primary author, Thomas Jefferson) drew on a theory of natural rights earlier espoused by John Locke and Jean Jacques Rousseau, among others. However, The Declaration may have been unique in wedding abstract theory with an action plan setting forth specific grievances and injustices and asserting a right of the people to rise up against tyrannical governments. The Signers put their lives and fortunes on the line so we could be a free people and an independent nation. While being well-versed in political theory, they were far more than theorists -- they were revolutionaries, men of action. All praises to these brave and wise Founders.

HappyBirthday to the USA

Praying that we stay united with peace and liberty for all.

In 1983, I was in Paris on July 4th and there was a fireworks display at Versailles. I thought that was pretty cool considering all the negative things said about the French people when it comes to the USA. I expected no celebrations outside the small group of people I was with but we had a wonderful time and sure made us feel connected to home.

If your out and about today, especially if your going to a parade or some other event, take the time to shake the hands of any soldiers you may see. They deserve our admiration every day and especially on this special day for our country.

Only one pic. The Leggamuffin is very happy in her new house. Happy 4th everyone. Ev

I just got back from our parade in Jemez Springs. Every fire truck, ambulance and many private vehicles were decked out for the parade. Small towns can be wonderful on the fourth of July. I koved the theme of one of our small town floats:

"Land of the free because of the brave."

Amen and thanks!.

Our oldest son is in Iraq after going back this past Tuesday. I believe I have a better feel for the true cost of our freedom when I measure it against the challenges he's faced with. Thank goodness we live in a country where men and women are free to make the choice to serve.

God Bless America
